Ther are great moves displayed on this vid but were any of the fights on this vid Canelo`s greatest performance? Take into account how Canelo fought and not just who he was fighting. This content is protected
Definitely not 1, probably not 2 either I think he boxed really well in one and had a great game plan in the second but if half of the boxing world thinks you lost then it's clearly not very good I'd prefer to say someone like Rocky Fielding or Chavez Jr, who were both overmatched but both much bigger (weight wise) and he dominated both
I would pick the second fight v GGG or the Fielding bout because he is getting better with each bout, always learning and evolving.
Thats a negative, for me. If you win or not isnt the be all end all of how you performed... form wise, iq wise, ect, in the fight. The level and style of opponent your facing plays a huge role. To illustrate my point Ill use an extreme example. What was a better performance from Fernando Vargas... dominating and stopping Raymond Joval, or getting stopped by Oscar? If you actually go and assess their performances, its hard to see anyone not seeing that his hoya performance was levels above his joval fight, despite it being a losing effort. What Im getting at is that outcomes alone dont determine how good of a performance it was or wasnt, to me. Now Im not saying that maybe Canelos best performance isnt better against someone else... to each their own. But for me, he performed better in a losing effort in the Golovkin fight precisely because he had to elevate his game, fight under some adversity, and operate at a higher level to stay competitive in the fight. To me that is a better performance than dominating a retreating punching bag (chavez jr)
He fought great in the first half of GGG 2 but faded pretty badly at the end.. He came out looking to kill Fielding, which was fun to watch, but Fielding is a bum. My favorite Canelo performance is actually the Lara fight, which I think he edged by a round with his counters and body work... Total chess match against an excellent boxer, and it wouldn't surprise me to see a similar fight v. Jacobs (including the controversy).
Probably the last one at 168 Fielding. Not a great fighter, but he demolished a decent fighter who was bigger.
Lara fight and Golovkin 2,wether folk think he won, lost or draw his performance was brilliant and imo was deserving of a win.
