What were all the 'pills' Clay was taking before the Holmes fight? Was he on PEDs?

He was a shell of a fighter anyway.

For the most part I agree, unless you specifically are talking about Ali before he changed his name

Eg: for prime Ali, most people would say Pre exile Ali or Clay (which in this context I'd be fine with)

He had his name legally changed as have a number of people I've known in my lifetime. Not acknowledging such is both disrespectful and ignoring what the law recognizes.

I remember a write up in the Ring (?) sometime after the Holmes bout where Ali said he wasn't able to sweat as a side affect of the medication along with it leaving him weak and listless. He stopped taking it too close to the fight for any recovery to take place.

You're going to easy on Ali. He was taking the stuff to cut weight but underestimated the possible side effects. It falls under the cloud of PED's that allow unfair advantages in training.

True but in those days, it was never mentioned as being such. I don’t even know when the term PEDs became part of the language and widely used? No, it seemed that the press at the time were more interested in Ali using hair dye to cover up his greying hair.

Ali couldn't sweat in that fight. He was popping them thinking they would be like vitamins. Ali wasn't very intelligent. He had an Angel looking over his shoulder more than a few times. I'm glad he didn't die in the ring that night. Beyond sad boxing may have gone with him.

I remember reading something, whatever pills he was on they sure as hell didn’t enhance his performance. They were thyroid pills to cut an unrealistic amount of weight, apparently fighting on them would’ve been unbearable.
