Wladimir Klitschko Retires - Where Does He Rank ?

Not putting Liston in there doesn't really reflect well on your knowledge of boxing, not one bit. No mention of the myriads upon myriads of solid contenders he left in his wake isn't mentioned either. Guys like Patterson, Quarry x 2, Terrell, Bonavena, Foster, Ellis etc etc etc etc etc. His quantity of wins over top 10 contenders is staggering.

Putting as much emphasis as you do on fights he was shot for like Holmes and Berbick again doesn't reflect well.

Your comments on Marciano are also peculiar. Louis was way past it when they fought. Do you afford Tyson the same lolly for beating Holmes?

Marciano "somehow stayed undefeated despite several tough fights against much bigger guys".

Are you marking him up for being small in an open weight division? Ranking heavyweights isn't P4P. Who are these much bigger guys? Including his eliminator to fight for the title and all title fights Marciano fought just one guy over 200, and that was C0ckell at 205 and he was hardly fearsome. Three defenses (half) were against ex long term 175 pounders.

Ali had 3 more defenses than Rocky ever made even prior to his exile. Against bigger men. Liston ranks higher than anyone Rocky ever beat. Please don't bring up an ancient Joe Louis.

I don't hate on Rocky but he readily shows your glaring lack of balance here when compared to Ali.

You would be hard pressed to find a fighter with a better resume, and I don’t think anyone has some of the top tier wins of Ali and his longevity and dominance is pretty close as well.

Rival or surpass anything anyone else can boast of, and the depth of quality challengers of which you just touched upon are the tip of the iceberg....unless you (not meaning you) are being willfully obstinate, obtuse or just contrarian in general it is hard not to acknowledge Ali’s greatness even for detractors such as myself

I have no problem with someone that thinks Louis shades Ali. Ali has the best top end going but Louis has all that time and defenses. Personal criteria will decide for most as it's close. There is daylight between them and #3 tho.

 

I had expectations he was gonna come with something stronger than he did. I can be an Ali critic at times but he fought and beat more good heavyweights than anyone by a good margin. Going at his resume not my first option.
