Listen I'm the first to accuse judges of being incompetent at best and corrupt at worst but the fight was very close IMO.

Boxing is subjective the way it's scored and everyone will have a different opinion, do I agree with the system? No I don't but that's what we are stuck with.

but the question is, who actually outscored who?

we all kno Marvin was robbed but the debate raged for decades. I have to tell you, this film is amazing and takes all the partiality out of it. the best thing to hit the internet since wikileaks

It's not just about who landed more though is it, I haven't watched the full fight in a long time but I remember Leonard landed the harder and more effective shots.

how come clancy says Hagler landed the harder shots?

so not only did Marvin outscore him 10 rds to 2 but also landed the harder shots

this is confirmed by rounds 5t and 9

not as bad a whipping he took from Norris tho

Trust me George, it was not mean, it was justified.
Never attempt to debate anything related to Srl with him as he will keep trolling you, as countless others will confirm.

Do as i do and speak about him in the 3rd sense only as he will troll you, the same as he is now doing with Wass.

The question is not who outscored who lol. If so we could just let compubox and punch stats score the fights.

I scored the fight narrowly for Hagler and feel he won...but he made a strategic error in conceding ring size and tactical errors in how he fought. SRL implemented and executed his strategy better.

yes the strategy by Dundee was carried out better, but compubox was flawed from the start

this video really opened my eyes!

Hagler and his corner were also certainly aware going into the bout how the judges loved Leonard. And Marvin had already been given the short end of the stick in Vegas. So no element of surprise there. But either the corner or Marvin certainly did not prepare and execute as if it was any sort of factor at all.

Angie Dundee in the other corner sure did not make that error in judgement. He had his guy throwing those flashy combos of his near the end of the rounds. And play to the crowds. But Leonard tried this with everyone---why didn't the Petronelli's have their guy prepared for those tactics? Take that advantage away or nullify it? And Marvin knew all of this going in.

Some posters are obsessed with finding ways to bash Leonard and his victories. (Like the one who started this topic) I don't know if Leonard owes him money slept with his sister, drove over his dog or whatever. But all objectivity from him goes right out the window where Leonard is concerned, and it becomes a personal, dishonest point of view from someone over the years that has clearly shown through many different post his unfair critiques of Leonard. But they are his opinions . However it does makes me question anything that comes from him because of the bias he clearly demonstrates on this topic.

You've no credibility on any thread regarding Raymond.

We all know that you hate the guy.

    10-2?

    Proof?

    Ha!

Go and listen to Clancy say:

"He's making a big mistake not fighting southpaw"

"I can't understand why he's not fighting southpaw"

"He's not going to win the fight like that"

Marvin gave away the first 3 rounds, and then it was a case of trying to catch up.

    Ray won that fight.

You just can't help mentioning the defeat to Norris can you. You always have to put that in there at some point. Sad.

Redrooster may be on to something here. I think boxing should become like football, basketball, and now even baseball. After every round, the officials should stop the fight and then review the action in slow motion to determine who really won the round. That way there would be far fewer "bad" decisions. And a side benefit to this innovation would be that the action would be more ferocious because the fighters would have more rest between rounds.

Seriously, punch counts aren't definitive. The power of the punches and controlling the flow of the fight, etc. are just as important. I thought at the time Hagler had the edge and I still do, but it was a close fight and, not being that heavily invested in the career of either fighter, I wasn't particularly disappointed. I don't think the decision had much effect on the legacy of either fighter. They were both very good.
