Agree entirely. Although Jerry Quarry and Tom Brookshire were great together.

You can't talk worst of all time boxing announcers without mentioning Max Kellerman. He really sets the standard for horribleness.

man i dont get that at all. your certainly not alone, I've heard a lot of people say they hate max. but i thought he was a great replacement for merchant and im not surprised he crossed over to other sports.

but to the thread topic: worst pure journalist = al bernstein , worst of any category = roy jones jr.

    No love for Al?

    Please explain.

I will add the unfortunate use of Dan Dierdorf. He seemed out of his element and more on assignment.

Also, Pacheco was pretty bad outside of adding personality.

I can’t remember him from a lot of particular fights but he was dreadful during Spinks vs Qawi

He loved boxing early on in his broadcasts but 'melted down' by 1980.
You simply had to be a 'kid' in the sixties and seventies to appreciate Howard. Personally I loved him along with Dumphy.

Skip Bayless is a troll who very, very obviously doesn't believe a word he says. His intent is to infuriate you. Don't reward him if you can help it.
Also, it's not ad hominem to question someone's motives. What's relevant is the reason for questioning someone's motives and what conclusions, if any, you draw from that.

I'm going to add to the endorsement if Gill Clancy. I also like Dunphy quite a lot based on what I see (hear) in old films. To be honest I've never really seen what's supposed to be so glaringly bad about Merchant, Pacheco, Lampley or Cosell. Maybe I'm just grading on a curve.
