He was suspended for 6 months and had his fight with GGG cancelled. Had the fight not gotten cancelled, had he not been suspended, that would be getting a pass. The NSAC's new rules of zero tolerance for any positive drug test of a banned substance were fully enforced and applied to Canelo. Had Golden Boy had any kind of influence over the commision as many on here love to claim, all that would have been swept under the table immediately and none of that would have ever become public.

Every opportunity Canelo has had to fight a top fighter he has taken. Regardless of risk/reward ratio, regardless if he had a big fight in the horizon like when he fought Trout knowing that a Mayweather fight was possible five months later.

You CANNOT say the same for Golovkin.

If Golovkin had the rep of taking on all comers then he would not be criticized ad much for Kell Brook, Vanes, or Wade type fighters.

 

I judge him based on the rep he has created for himself. He seriously needs to fight the top.

 

The only reason he fought Canelo was because of the prize that came with fighting him. Not because he's a warrior looking to fight the best.

No Kell Brook and Vanes Martirosyan are not better wins than Lara, Trout, Cotto, or GGG. They're not even better wins than Canelo moving up and beating a top 10 SMW in Fielding.

Brook a career WW moving up 13 pounds, unranked at MW, immediately moved back down to WW.

Martirosyan a career SWW moved up to MW after being retired 2 years, took the fight with only six weeks notice.
