That pretty much sums it up, but you're right, the protest can be a little over the top

You're right. If I remember correctly Pea was 154 come fight night. Chavez was at 146. Can anyone confirm this or correct me?

Never said or even implied that you or anyone was. You don’t have to be a casual to be influenced.

Part of the reason why Floyd was concerned with commentary leading up to Pac that led to them having a one on one meeting to working out those details:

It's no surprise that Floyd has often expressed his preference that the fight should be broadcast on his network affiliate, Showtime Sports.

The pound for pound fighter is wise enough to realize that a pro-Mayweather broadcast team could drastically influence the way most fight fans view the action as it unfolds in the ring.

When one considers what both fighters and networks stand to gain or lose financially with this joint endeavor, the chosen crew calling the fight could prove to be an integral part of how the overall fight is viewed by the real bosses of boxing, the paying customers.

Should commentators like Al Bernstein, Paulie Malignaggi, Jim Lampley, and Max Kellerman be trusted to call the action without an obvious slant in favor of their respective network's fighter?

Part of the reason Lederman petitioned HBO because the commentary did not match what he was seeing as a judge (not that I am a huge Lederman fan), and why several judges felt that Lederman stirred up controversy by having conflicting scorecards that were aired publicly and influenced people.

There is a lot out there and not just boxing related about how media and advertising shapes and molds people’s opinions....it has nothing to do with being a casual

Think I had it that way too. Should watch it again but it was quite boring.

Basically, the champion retained his title, and most thought the champion won clearly, so there was no reason for the organization to insist on an immediate rematch. Whitaker may have preferred to have a win instead of a draw, but he was still the champion.

And Chavez wasn't a welterweight. He moved up for that fight. He was still a champ in a lower division. So he just went back down.

And, finally, the fight wasn't very good. I bought it on PPV. It was okay. I thought the decision was off. But, I didn't want to see it again. I recorded it, and I think I've watched it once since that night. And I only watched it because I was making a copy for someone.

It just wasn't some epic encounter that everyone wanted to see again. We saw it. It was okay. Nobody lost. Move on.

Yes Chavez had a few questionable shots but that was mostly due to Whitaker's crouching. Whitaker landed hard intentional low blows and landed a lot more of them(last time I watched I think I counted 10and 2 more fouls(hitting on the break and after the bell. Theres no way you can argue Cortez shouldn't have taken a point away by at least the 5th round and a second point in the 6th if not a DQ altogether as that was the round Chavez was fouled the most

The fouls in this fight were just a hair short of Golata vs Bowe

Chavez was the most pampered fighter prior to Canelo I can ever remember .. King needed him once Tyson was in the can as his big ticket and King nurtured it ... No question Chavez was an exceptional fighter but the Whitaker/Randall years were ugly .. he bought his own kool aide ... Whitaker cleanly won the decision in a competitive fight but it was nothing compared to how Chavez sat by as they stole him back the title vs Randall ..
