I actually liked Roy and Manny. Gil and Bernstein were okay. I even can deal with Max. I don't like Jim and Pacheco. Foreman even annoyed me some.

Yeah, I like Roy a lot too. His commentary is rarely just filler. Gil and Manny, aside from being quite astute, also have really cool voices, like if you were to cast them as trainers in a Rocky movie, they would (I guess unsurprisingly) fit the role perfectly.

I think I go easier on a lot of commentators than some other posters do. I didn't mind and even enjoyed some of the guys mentioned.

That said, Sugar Ray Leonard's tendency to call for a flash knockdown in round one in nearly every fight he called (seemingly) was irritating. Foreman said some coo-coo stuff sometimes. The guy that really irritates me, though, is someone on the Showtime team - Mauro Ranallo, maybe (I don't watch boxing as much these days as I used to, so I could have the wrong guy.). I guess his schtick is to be over the top, but I just go "SHUT UP!"

I think he used to call the Pride shows in Japan. So I think he calls boxing fights like it's a MMA EVENT, which Pride was in Japan. It was all about the theatrics as much as the fights. Still though, they were routinely drawing 45,000 gates while the UFC was lucky to do 15,000 for years and years.

Good to see you post Scientist

The best commentators were the old guys who were working TV in the early days and had come from doing boxing on radio.
    Don Dunphy et al.
They understood that people at home could see with their own eyes and added their commentary sparingly.

Of course, it wasn't long before they got old and their style was replaced by the annoying, obnoxious and ego-driven styles of later announcers.

Yeah, Ferdie Pacheco might be the worst.

Here in the UK right now, the whole SKY team is an absolute disgrace. Cheerleading biased ranting imbeciles.

Here in the UK the Sky analysis/punditry used to be very good back in the 90's and 00's with the likes of Barry McGuigan, Duke McKenzie, Nicky Piper, Jim Watt, Gary Mason etc. etc. but over the last 10 years it has gone to absolute **** with Adam Smith and Johnny Nelson leading a bunch of so called pundits either conning the public into buying a Khan-McCloskey calibre PPV or cheerleading for Eddie Hearn and his con artist BS. Gone to the absolute dogs.

And as others have said Ferdie Pacheco was a total jerk.

In the U.K. I have to say I do like Barry Jones on box nation BT sport. He actually has rare ability of being able to articulate his insight with a full knowledg and passion for what he’s talking about.

Sky has gone down the toilet. A whole gang of ex boxers competing for after fight chat? It’s often embarrassing to watch them waiting their turn to top what the last guy said. And although I appreciate the ring card girls as much as the next guy I think There is absolutely no need for that lady presenter either. If she’s just there to ask for opinion what’s the Point?
