You are viewing Floyd's reign at welter through rose colored glasses. Floyd was very selective with his opponents. Never fighting one top welter in his prime. Mosely probably KO's Floyd had they fought earlier. Pac probably out points Floyd, had they fought earlier. Floyd almlst got KO'd by Maidana. He's lucky the rou,d was about to end when Maidana knocked his dental work into the crowd. Leonard would have beaten Floyd pillar to post just like he did Sr.

The guy hasn't been retired that long, so rose tinted glasses don't even apply here. Also - just to clarify - I am not particularly a Floyd. I'm a fan of boxing and appreciate his skills (I rooted for Hatton, Sugar Shane and Manny against him for e.g). I also agree there is some carefully selected matchup's in his resume (great fighters perhaps not at their prime). Agree with all of that. But I still stand by what I say based purely on his skillset. And let's not get over dramatic here. Nearly got KO'd by Maidana? LOL. Nope. He got hit and hurt no doubt (who doesn't?). But as we saw against Chop Chop and Mosley, he just carries on stays calm and schools people immediately after being hurt. He has that rare ability. Most people will panic. He does not. Also, to suggest Leonard would beat him pillar to post...please. Nobody would. I can't argue too much if you say Leonard beats him, fair enough. Like I say it's a 50/50 and I can easily see that. But beats him pillar to post? C'mon now.

SRL is just too big for Mayweather and has advantages in speed and power that mean he will get off first with his punches and be in and out before FMJ can counter. Plus if he does land they will have the power and authority to hurt Floyd. It will probably lead to a competitive but clear points decision for Leonard. If FMJ comes looking for Leonard (he won't) then Leonard can bang and I think he'd stop FMJ fairly easy. People remember SRL as a slick speedster but he could really bang when he sat down on his punches. Watch his left hook KO of Dave 'Boy' Green back in the day. If these 2 fighters were active at the same time the fight would never happen - SRL is just a step too far for Floyd and he knows it.

Tommy Hearns would do a similar job too, as it happens. Both these fighters are too much for the Pretty Boy.

Leonard all day long. Far bigger, had knockout power, could go for 15 rounds and could box

    SRL by late stoppage.

    Two different levels, imo.

I actually like Floyd more than SRL. I think he's a smarter and more skilled fighter.

But SRLs size and raw talent, supplementing his good level of operation (even if a bit below Floyd's) is simply too much for Floyd to overcome, imo.

Floyd's best hypotheticals aren't at 147 precisely due to the fact that he's small and lacks power for the division. If it were all about boxing skills, then much smaller guys should be able to move up in weight and defeat more lumbering opponents, right? These divisions exist for a reason.

As such, Leonard is too big for Floyd and would almost definitely outwork him. Leonard could fight almost a pure offensive fight, while Floyd would have to work harder to get in position and have to be mindful of SRL's power.

Floyd vs Duran at 135 is a much fairer and more interesting discussion.

I think Mayweather would find holes in Leonard’s defense get a decision. Leonard looped right hands and didn’t move his head much.

    Look!!

Leonard is so superior in every aspect that he can decide how he will beat Floyd and there is simply nothing FMJ can do about it.

If Sugar Ray wants to humiliate Floyd he can do that easily, if he wants to beat on him for 12 rounds leaving Floyd mentally scarred he can do that even easier and if SRL wants to batter Floyd senseless, ending the fight early, that’s what he will do and Floyd has no say in the matter.

There are levels to almost everything and Sugar Ray Leonard is many levels above Floyd Mayweather Jr

Leonard is superior to Mayweather at everything except counterpunching, lead right hand, jab to the body, economic footwork, defense, chin, conditioning, and mid fight adaptation.
