No the ibf are doing the right thing, the other sanctioning boards needs to follow suit and retract their belt when someone breaks their rules like the IBF did.

I see the ability to drain more weight than someone else as a physiological advantage, and in that regard no different from other physical advantages that fights differ in such as power or speed.

I’ve always been impressed with people’s ability to do this, and also have thought that it eventually comes back to bite them in the ass because you’re toeing such a thin line every time you cut weight that one misstep could really be the end of your title reign, whether that’s because you’ve missed weight or you drained yourself too much prefight and are flat once you’re in the ring

I used to be pretty anti weight bullying.

Now, while I still look down on it to a certain extent, I do have to accept that many of these fighters who boil themselves down aren't doing anything that isnt available to everyone. And whether they are simply either trying harder to make their target weight, or the few whose genetics are allowing them to make that weight while being structurally bigger, either way, while its still something that bugs me a bit, it is what it is.

If they are going further and trying harder to make a lower weight that gives them a size advantage against other fighters who didnt try as hard to make the weight below them, why shouldn't they?

If they make the weight they make the weight.

I agree the weight should be the weight on fight night, probably need to weigh in a few days before fight night aswell just to avoid letting fans down on the night, if someone misses weight. Clinging to weight divisions you don’t belong in is a pretty soft move.

If the sport had same day weigh in, there would be more deaths and brain injuries. There's a reason they went to this in the first place.

It's a double edged sword. Only the fighter can decide if the tradeoffs (and there are tradeoffs) are worth it.

like i've said before, the way to put a stop to this is make guys make weight every day for the whole week prior to the fight.

Back in the 70's, fighters like Bazooka Gomez and Saad Muhammad would lose fairly considerable amounts of weight on the day of the fight. There have always been guys who have shrunk down to lower weight classes and have been noticeably larger than most opponents at the weight (think Carlos Monzon).

Anyway, if Hurd has the discipline and ability to make the weight limit and the re-hydration limit, more power to him.
