The video is a tough watch, his recovery from the initial incident was remarkable and, perhaps with the benefit of hindsight, although he says in the clip that he understands how serious it was, his eyes don't seem to back that up. Having felt so good and being a young fit guy who had achieved much in the sport, the temptation to put he gloves back on must've been intense, it's just so sad that he wasn't able to resist it and that the price he paid was so great. I wish him and his family well. Like you say above his grit is plain to see, may his recovery continue.
I’ve said this a few times bud, but the initial damage was to his front lobals which are responsible amongst many other things for impulse control, planning, thinking about consequences etc He should have been protected from himself after the first coma. He will never fully recover, but I really hope he lives a happy, fulfilling life.
Very interesting. I guess nothing is to be gained from an inquest into who else was involved, but hopefully a very sad lesson has been learned.
Unfortunately, yeah. People don’t wake up the same from a coma. Any kind of brain trauma causes a change in the person. He should have had a support worker from the off to watch out for him and keep him out of bother. I feel for him. This is his new reality now though. He isn't the old Nick Blackwell trapped in the body of this current Nick Blackwell. A lot of that person has gone. So he can genuinely go on to have a good albeit limited quality of life.
He lack of support for guys with head injuries is ridiculous. A mate of mine was in a coma(not from boxing) and he was never the dame but had zero support. He ended up dying because he wasnt taking his meds, pretty sad
I seethe with rage when I think about Spud O'Connor's refereeing and the post care treatment of Eduard Gutknecht after the George Groves fight. Makes my blood boil every time I think about it.
Tough watch, glad he's focusing on something else though. Flashes of the old Nick in there with his jokes
What a sentence - get back to school HeavyTampon as your grammar is about as limited as your humourless persona.
Nick Admitted the sparring partner had no idea who he was. I received dog abuse for stating this at the time of the incident. The poor guy had his boxing license suspended for 6 months and received death threats because everyone was determined to lay the blame at someone other than Nick himself.
HeavyTampon really is seething with rage and suffering from a serious lack of humour disorder - known as boring cants where I come from. HeavyTampon is seething - seething the day away
