Why did Naseem Hamed lose?

but why did this only suddenly happen on the single first occasion when he fought an elite? Did it not happen in his other fights. It mirrors 3G fans when 3G fought his first elite and couldnt win either.

Its too much of a coincidence. I tihnk rather, he was heavily outclassed because he was not a true elite.

 

Naz was good but not great, and when he fought a real legitimate elite fighter he got exposed and beaten.

 

Yes, JJ was a problem for MAB. For whatever reason some styles and / or opponents will always be difficult for some guys. I’m convinced that Holyfield would’ve always been kryptonite for Tyson and same with MAB and Naz. If those guys fought 10 times Holy and Marco would win 9, irregardless if Mike and prince trained better or had their original trainers.

 

Naseem’s left hand was ruined going into the fight. When watching the fight you’ll notice he almost never throws his left due to it being badly damaged. In a rematch it would’ve been the same, since Naseem’s left hand was never going to be like it used to be. This was much like Tony Tucker, who fought Tyson with a damaged right hand. Even when Tucker made a comeback his right hand wasn’t any good even after he had it surgically repaired.

Hamed had terrible footwork , often off balance , open for huge shots . He relied on unconventional style which some opponents were overwhelmed by . When he met a prepared Barrera who simply stepped into the pocket that Hamed put himself into , exposing Hamed's poor defence over and over . Barrera always had a solid conventional style with great courage which Hamed simply couldn't dominate .

The full nelson Barrera put Hamed into and marched him into the ring turnbuckle is one of the best moments in all of boxing.... the bully being bullied ... CLASSIC

 

That documentary showed he wasn't training properly. His family should have slapped him around and kept him with ingle, but they were all yes men trying to stay on the gravy train.

 

It wasn`t competitive at all.

 

I don't think an Ingle trained more dedicated Naz would of done much better. MAB is an ATG in the lower weights of his career and there is no shame in losing to him. Naz was good but just not on that level. His flashy unorthodox style flattered to deceive but in reality he wasn't truly elite like Marco was and it was only going to get worse for him if he went on to fight Morales, JMM and Pacquiao.

 

Naz was in his prime but Tyson wasn`t, p4p Tyson was far better than Naz.

First, I said “similar”, not “identical”. The point being that some guys are going to give other guys hell no matter what. Styles make fights and MAB and Holyfield would always be kryptonite for naz and Mike.
Secondly, Mike Tyson was more prime than Evander was; that was why Holy was a 25 to 1 underdog! By the time of their first fight Evander had already been in multiple ring wars, had more mileage on his engine than Mike and had already been stopped by Bowe. That’s what made his victory over Mike so shocking at the time.
Thirdly, your last statement about P4P is too much of a non sequitur for me to address.
