Actually read Hauser's article on the low rating at the time. That's the best you have? A semi perturbed response, showing your emotion.

As I stated, going up to beat Tarver from middleweight was a more prestigious win. That's a fact. It seems to have hurt you a little, but, it's still a fact.

Incorrect. Hopkins & Calzaghe came to fair terms for the fight to happen Hopkins the very next day pulled out NOT calzaghe .Calzaghe unified the title just as he had set out to do as an early one belt holder regardless of who was in the division ..fact

The only people who know what was fair or unfair, is Hopkins, Calzaghe, and their handlers. Anything else is pure speculation on your part. If what you say has some truth to it, I'd imagine Hopkins didn't like his purse split after finding out what Calzaghe was getting. Boxers do it all the time now. Hopkins ended up going after a more prestigious title anyway, when he went after Tarver.

Hopkins was never going to take less than half vs Calzaghe. Call it what you want. I was disappointed the fight didn't get made the first time around. It would have been a better fight a few years earlier.

You forgot another important difference, Herol.

One of them was rumoured to be on close terms with Mrs. Gee, the other wasn't.

BHop started at LHW, lost his first ever fight, disappeared for a long time and came back as a MW (at least on fight nights).

His win over Tarver was good, but, since Bernard was better than Antonio, Joe's win over him was obviously better.

Hopkins asked for 5 million and got it then demanded 10 million the day after so effectively he priced himself out of the fight all this is well document , he fought Hakker in his next fight for way less than 5 million apparently my mail was 2.5 million but who knows for sure ? Either way he stayed at middleweight for a three more years so didn't go straight up to 175lbs to fight Tarver instead of fighting calzaghe so my point stands. Hopkins bottled it .

As I stated previously. He wasn't going to take less than Calzaghe. Call it what you want, without having a clear knowledge of all the details, doesn't matter to me at this point. That Hakkar fight stunk, but at least Hopkins didn't get dropped by him like Calzaghe got dropped by Salem

I think the figures highlight the ignorance of American fans back then as opposed to calzaghe's status.. it's no surprise that two Euros back then in the 00s didn't do great numbers on American HBO is it? I mean most of em were so inward looking back then they thought Jeff Lacy was about to put a drubbing on him.. It's not like today!

As for Bhop. No, his win was a quality win over Tarver. Fair play to him.. But why would Bhop beating Tarver hurt me, a Calzaghe fan? The win only bolsters Bhops status as a LHW .. It gladdens my heart that Tarver was so badly outclassed by someone Calzaghe almost made quit LOL

Never mind tho bro, you've always got them 'viewing figures' & that article of Hausers at your disposal, I can't argue wiv such a damning enlightenment on a mans legacy than HBO numbers from the 00s

He wasn't offered less than Calzaghe.

He wanted three million dollars and for the fight to take place in the US.
Both conditions were agreed to bt Calzaghe's team.

The very next day, Bernard said he wanted SIX million dollars.
This is called Bargaining in bad faith, and this is why the fight did not take place in 2002.

Bernard priced himself out of the fight, same as he did with Jones and Toney.

I'm not saying he did so from fear. He was just too greedy !

    According to SHOWTIME'S Jay Larkin:

"A teleconference was set up in my office in New York for July 30trh, 2002, and on the call was myself, Don King who was in the room, Frank Warren and Bernard Hopkins' lawyer, Arnold Joseph. Along with Arnold was a woman named Linda Carter, who was there on behalf of Bernard. We asked Arnold if Bernard wanted to fight Joe Calzaghe and we asked him how much money would he want if he did. The response we got was $3million and the fight would have to take place in the United States. After a little scratching of the head, we said 'Okay, done.' Frank Warren agreed on the spot, DOn King agreed and we agreed so as far as we were concerned all parties were singing off the one hymm sheet. Arnold excused himself with Linda and I can only assume it was to call Bernard. Either that day or the next day, they came with a new demand: $6million, dobule the sum that had been agreed, the deal blew up.....he had then and still has no desire to fight Joe Calzaghe, that much is pretty clear.

Joe gets criticised sometimes for not having fought the big-name Americans, but in this case the fault has never rested with him."

    - Jay Larkin.
