You can't manufacture Foreman's type of strength.....in another life he may have been a strongman type or a wrestler
I had an old issue of SI where they did a story on him leading up to the first Frazier fight. There is a pic of him chopping wood and hes holding a massive chunk in one hand shoulder level ready to toss it. I cant imagine how much it weighs but I'm telling you it looks heavy as all hell. Perhaps you can Google it. George was a monster in the strength dept
I fully agree. He was just naturally a monster of a man in the strength department. People could train for strength their entire life and Foreman would walk in and bully them with what he could.
Looking back, old ‘fat’ George from the 1990’s looks in better condition that many current heavies inc Dillian Whyte. Foreman was a machine.
To think he did all that training to get in shape to fight again just so he could raise money for the local church!
In regards to frame size, bone density and bone structure, this definitely explains y foreman was such a freak: https://depts.washington.edu/bonebio/bonAbout/race.html https://www.livestrong.com/article/219938-how-to-know-your-body-frame/ Having 7.5 inch wrists is already considered large and well above average. Foreman had 8 inch wrists in the tale of the tape for the Norton fight. He also had very large calfs. This explains why he always looked so much more robust than his opponents. He simply had a deceptively large frame and could thus carry much more stocky/skeletal muscle for overwhelming opponents. https://i1.wp.com/www.boxing4free.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/ForeNortBan.jpg?w=775
Foreman should of stayed 230 his whole first career. He was listed at 6'3 230 as a 19 year old. I don't know why lost weight. Also when he came back out of retirement he got down to 235 against Dwight Qawi. He should of stayed that weight. He could of been quicker and better.
In his comeback he said he stayed big on purpose to have a size and strength advantage. He already had a large hill to climb dealing with opponents who were on average 10-15 years younger with quicker reflexes and more stamina. He said he would spar with 5 different men in one day and run 10 miles a day in order to become a 12 round fighter and have better endurance: "I came back to lose weight and eventually increased my roadwork to 10 miles a day,” said Foreman, who focused diligently on developing stamina during his second coming. “I would train with five sparring partners and do two or three rounds with each of them. Every two or three rounds I have a fresh fighter in front of me. When you train like that your spirit becomes involved and you have complete confidence." Source: https://www.ringtv.com/361845-george-foreman-muhammad-alis-trainer-demand-prevented-rematch/ This is probably why his calfs and ankles were so bulky and never got knocked down again despite so many flush blows from fighters like Briggs, Morrison, holyfield, Cooney, etc.
Foreman says a lot of things. Foreman stated after his lost to Holyfield "If he knew Holyfield would be so light and so fast he would of came into the ring around 230". Then he stated he would start weighing around that amount from then on. Also Foreman never had poor stamina. He got tired in 1 fight in his physical prime. If Foreman had poor stamina then wouldn't that mean Wladimir Klitschko had even worse stamina for gassing against Ross Purrity and Lamon Brewster? I never heard anybody say Wlad has poor stamina. Anthony Joshua gassed out against the old Wlad yet I never heard people keep talking about how poor his stamina is .But since the want to be expert media said he had poor stamina so many people at home believe whatever people on TV say. Foreman himself probably started doubting himself and started to believe it. The 3 fights in Foreman's prime that he did go the distance were in his first 16 bouts. The only one that has footage is the Foreman vs Gregorio Peralta bout. I am asking you this specifically .Do you believe Foreman looked tired against Peralta?
Where in my post did i say he had bad stamina? I simply posted a quote where foreman said he did lots of road work and sparring to improve his stamina. Young foreman had bad pacing in some fights where he would be overly aggressive. He learned to relax and pace himself much better as an old man. The context of the quote I posted is referring to when foreman had gotten way out of shape at 280-300 lbs and needed to do some extreme cardio to get back into fighting shape in the late 80's. Hence him "increasing his road work to 10 miles".
