June 1st on the AJ vs. Baby undercard @ MSG. "Speedy Rashidi", a 21-0 (14) welterweight prospect still mostly known for being a Manny Pacquiao's sparring partner ahead of the hotly anticipated (if coolly received) Floyd Mayweather Jr. super-fight, would be taking his biggest leap up in class by far. His previous best scalp is a fellow young east coast prospect E-Boy Gómez, blitzing the Bronx native in a New York minute. Dulorme, a Guadeloupean-Puerto Rican (born in Marigot, a former colonial region that retains a heaviy Francophonic culture, hence the nickname) boxer-puncher and former world title challenger, is coming off a close, hard-fought draw with fellow disgruntled TMT alumnus Jessie Vargas. He is four years older than Ellis and has four more blemishes on his record (a draw and three losses, two by stoppage) but has fought a much higher level of competition. Ellis is currently ranked #8 by the WBO and #4 by the IBF. Dulorme is unranked by any major org but his goal at present isn't even to get into the world title hunt...instead, he wants another crack at Vargas, against whom Dulorme feels he was robbed, and he is publicly calling him out as ducking a rematch. I'm torn here as far as rooting interest. On the one hand, Ellis is from - roughly - my neck of the woods (Lynn, MA) so he's my "local" guy. On the other, I've always sort of liked Thomas Dulorme's style, and he seems to have more heart than is the unfortunate stereotype for boricuas in the squared circle (he kept getting up from multiple knockdowns against Terence Crawford) - and, just yesterday, he randomly liked an Instagram post of mine, completely outta the blue, and we didn't even follow each other (we do now...so, I guess basically we're besties?) so...I gotta stan for my stans, y'know? Rashidi and I ain't mutuals..
Rashidi by Gomez-like 1st round wreckage. He and his sister are the goods in that family. Ronald is maybe just as those two but went totally FUBAR in applying it.
Damn, you think he's just that good or do you think Dulorme's resistance is kablooey at this point? Or a little from columns a+b?
TBH it's probably a combination of being a hopeless homer and wishful/delusional dreaming. The whole family is as naturally gifted as almost anyone else ive ever seen in person but besides his destruction of Gomez, Rashidi and Ronald I think are big-time underachievers. In all honesty I wouldnt be surprised if Dulorme worked/stopped Rashidi but I really hope not. Lynn, Lynn, the city of sin, dont ever fight like the Ellis brothers.
