Just tried to watch his latest interview on Boxing Social and it was far too dull I had to turn it off.

Callum Smith is the number 1 super middleweight on the planet and just won the WBSS and Hearn isn't bothering to make him into PPV it seems. Smith is good to watch in the ring but his interviews are unwatchable and I think the same of Buatsi. Nice guy, talented fighter, but not one that will cross over I don't think, he just doesn't have enough personality/charisma.

If he keeps winning he will end up on PPV anyway.
It's just how British boxing works atm.

Joshua is hardly the life and soul of the party.

Try reading posts from @emallini - the most boring poster on here and a possessed stalker who spends the night stealing knickers from washing lines.

No such thing as a PPV star - the correct term is a PPV Mug Abuser

Nope but I enjoy watching Callum Smith too, and he's a world champion, number 1 at Super middle, yet casuals don't even know who he is.

Surely you know from being the trainer of a 3 weight world champion in Ricky Burns who had/has an extremely low profile for what he's achieved - that personality is very important when it comes to being a big name!

Absolutely - the ring entrance and interview at the end of the Whyte fight was staged acting that looked very poor, very boring and most people cringed it was so bad. Tony Dosh has zero charisma and his acting skills awful.

for the casuals maybe yeah... I have never tuned into a fight to watch a "personality" i tune in too watch guys that can fight !!

for eg we have all been watching Canelo, GGG & Loma before they could all really speak a word of english !

    It’s a valid argument.

You can’t compare him to Anthony Joshua. No homo but AJ is a godlike specimen. 6’6”, better looking than Buatsi, built like a comic superhero and he is a Heavyweight.

He transcends boxing because of his total package, he doesn’t need great personality on top of it.

Buatsi seems like a genuinely good person but he’s caught in a division that casuals don’t really care much for and there’s nothing about him that makes you think he could go mainstream famous.

Canelo is another one with a personality bypass. It hasn't hurt his career.

Actually agree with you for once lol. I said on another thread when a poster was disputing AJ’s PPV Numbers, you can’t underestimate how much your casual fan loves AJ. My parents pay for his fights and they never watch any other boxing. Like you say, being a heavyweight adds so much to it because your average watcher who doesn’t care about technical boxing will prefer bigger men having a fight.

Buatsi won’t be a PPV star but will be a very good champion I think.

If he knocks the stuffing out of people casuals are soon going to know who he is and they will tune in to see more.

Charisma in a fighter is a marketing 'nice to have' not a necessity. Any decent marketing team will be able to craft a narrative around buatsi and if you watch you will already see the process at work in the anecdotes being related about him and his 'journey'.

Precisely!!! You can see the building process already with him and Okolie and they are being sold differently as well. People assume that the only way you can be marketable is by being a loud mouth, brash and have controversy follow you around. As Joshua, Canelo (without the Mexican beef), Golovkin, etc. have shown, you can actually make MORE money by projecting a good homily image.

Every American boxer seems to think you have to be Ali or Mayweather to be a big star. You don't! Different narratives have always been successful in boxing and all sport but the media seems to only want to pay attention to the loudest voices.
