Pac man is better, every single classical boxer from the old days is ridiculously hyped up to the point of lunacy, especially if they are American, absolutely mind boggling
Would Armstrong get away with dipping as low as he did? You have to respect that the likes of Armstrong and others at that time were fighting nearly 2 times a month, but that being said there is no way they would be at the level of fitness a current champion of similar stature would be.
Pacquiao is a warrior, but much of the fanfare he recieved throughout his career was media driven agenda.. His 8th world title was nothing more than a shameful concoction perpetrated by the boxing media elites, almost as shameful as that Rocky Fielding bout against Canelo a couple months back.. I will give an edge in quality of opposition to Pacquiao however.. Armstrong came from a different era and most of the guys he beat wouldn't rank in today's era which has been dominated by Mexican and Puerta Rican fighters below 160
Yeah, I think I gotta go with Manny. Although..as overrated boxers go...Armstrong is one of the guys who doesn't seem to be badly overrated. He was an ATG for sure.
I don't know, I think Armstrong's opposition was better, but otherwise I agree with this. Pacquiao's 8 world title was a bit of a joke
While I agree that it's Armstrong, you guys are underrating Pacquiao way too much. You are forgetting 2 things: 1. He skipped 2 weight classes that he can easily have won world titles in. 2. It's his lineal championship titles in 5 divisions that was impressive. These old boxers fight plenty of bums during their time. And remember that Pacquiao fought and won over Barrera (2-0), Marquez (2-1-1) and Morales (2-1). I still don't see any winning streak remotely close to that outside of SRL's campaign over Duran, Hagler and Hearns, and of course the heavyweights like Ali (which is honestly unfair, as they don't need to climb or lose weight). Pacquiao's campaign on the lower weights is impressive. Especially when you start adding the likes of Ledwaba and Sasakul in the mix. His LWW and WW career is just icing on the cake.
I’m not saying it so, I’m stating a fact. The lineal champ IS the champ. Armstrong never unified, he beat the man who beat the man, exactly what Pac did in 5 of the 8 original weight classes. He was lineal from flyweight to WW which is a better achievement than what Armstrong did. Fact.
That’s a matter of opinion. Pac moved from FW to WW in the space of 12 months and won titles in all of them. He was also lineal from flyweight to WW which is exactly what Armstrong is praised for, being lineal in 3 weight classes except Pac did it over a large weight span.
Yes becoming lineal champ in 5 of them, ring magazine champ in 3 of them is definitely a joke. SRL winning 2 weight titles in a single fight is a far bigger joke.
No I meant in that post winning the 8th title was a joke He didn't even weigh in at 154 he was just given it by the WBC
Sure it's a matter of opinion But per jump, Armstrong had more to go He had a good 12/13 lbs each time, Pac had like 3 pounds
