I`m impressed, but the other poster was stating that I get opinions from Quora, which is untrue.

The earliest references to boxing in Britain call it "fist fencing"

I think that boxing technique as we understand it today, did evolve out of sword practice.

If you have some stuff on it I'd love to see it (maybe it's own thread?)

I think Quora is good for antiquity stuff, as the people who posts on those subjects are usually either well read on it, and many times even teach the subject at some various levels

We used to have a bare knuckle resources thread as a sticky at one time!

A lot of information got lost when that ceased to be the case.

    Links tend to degrade too.

Websites restructure, or stop existing entirely.

the thing that bothered me most about quora is that way some mod would inappropriately meld your question with an unrelated question, thus making your carefully thought out answer look like its been written by a buffoon about an unrelated topic.

    Yahoo answers.

    Ha!

I've seen a guy swear that Bruce Lee and Mike Tyson would have beaten an adult silverback gorilla.

    I miss those days.

Mark, if you applied logic, you'd never have made the thread in the first place.

Boxing has evolved from the M.O.Q. but it doesn't keep evolving.

For some bizarre reason, you didn't rate the decade of the 90's.

Yet there's many divisions of the 90's which were superior than today's.

I think that's because science has very well defined criteria for resolving disputes (indeed the specificity of the truth conditions is a large part of what makes it science) and poseurs tend to get shot down very quickly as soon as someone competent shows up.

As far as boxing goes, I remember that at one time the entry on bonecrusher Smith Smith had a phrase somethig like, "In 19- [I don't remember the year] Bonecrusher finally listened to common sense and hung up the gloves for good" which, while not exactly false, is an odd bit of editorializing for an objective article.

I think I saw that exact same question just a couple months ago. A male silverback could bench press about 1,500 pounds if you could get him to perform the action, he has canines about the size of a woman's thumb, and a .32 ACP would probably bounce off his skull.
