It isn’t just what a fighter weighs, but how he gets to that weight. Frazier going into the Ali fight was training properly and was very strict with his diet and didn’t need to boil the weight off. Going into the Bugner fight Joe spent most of his training camp boiling weight off to get down to 208, since he wasn’t watching his diet. Boiling down as quickly as he did had a negative impact on Joe’s stamina in the Bugner fight, since he was out of steam in the last round. Also, ability not weight wins fights.
This. The bigger guys can get away with slacking because they are blessed with size, but smaller guys like Tyson, Frazier, Marciano, etc.. need to be in top form to win.
Lol right weight doesn't win fights? Yet their are weight glasses? So you are saying Floyd Mayweather Jr could beat Anthony Joshua because he is more skilled and has more ability right? Yeah you are one of those people who still think 170 pound guys like Gene Tunney could beat Lennox Lewis right? You are one of those people who think 180 pound Rocky Marciano could beat George Foreman (Well Rocky Marciano didn't have any skill either). Yeah you are one of those people. You are one of those people who I will ignore for not knowing a dog gone thing about boxing.
I thought Frazier's main limitation was hypertension/high blood pressure and that he had serious health issues as far back as his win over Ali that caused him to hospitalized after the fight. I suspect his health would be the main deterrent to a successful comeback in 78-79.
Hold on..? Your going to ignore somebody for things that you made up that he never actually posted. Thats gangster.
Some people like to pitch the ball to themselves and gloat as they imagine having knocked it out of the park.
Valid point! And don't forget Joe's vision issues. I always wondered if joe decided to fight Jumbo Cummings without his contact lenses or if he just got used to wearing them over time. I read somewhere that in Frazier-Foreman II, Joe said one of his contact lenses popped out (and remember back then there were no such thing as "soft" lens) and through his concentration and literally his focus way off.
Here I am replying to my own reply above: another point about Joe's vision - particularly against Jumbo Cummings - if you look at the fight (I posted the link earlier) you see joe missing quite a few hooks. Now, granted, maybe it took awhile for Joe to get his rhythm in terms of connecting , but i remember seeing that fight for the first time and thinking, "Either Joe just can't pull the trigger or maybe he just can't see the guy standing there."
