2002? no, because hopkins calzaghe was being negotiated to happen AFTER Hakkar. Hakkar was in 2003.

This entirely disproves the theory that "Hopkins fought Hakkar in place of calzaghe", because the plan was if anything for the calzaghe to follow hakkar.

2004? no, because Hopkins was looking to land an ATG in place of unrecognised titlist calzaghe, in form of 3 fights allowing time for DLH to acquire a title for a unification with Hopkins.
There is no way the calzaghe fiht could interfere with that 3 fight sequence

it was already booked actually. A fight with joe would have had to taken place in teh summer of 2003..... after Hakkar. The link proves this.

Your 2002 date refers ONLY to talks about a future fight.

So not only did Hopkins do the right thing to not chase a weak titlist like calzaghe in place of elite joppy and atg DLH, he made way more than double the money from it.
Beats a "fake offer" from joe and Wassen ANY DAY.
