Is Joshua Buatsi too boring personality wise to be a PPV star

Buatsi has a dark side and has shown it in the ring a few times already. That will be his appeal going forward.

Similar to Joshua, seems like a nice guy but we all know there's something bubbling beneath the surface.

 

I’m not sure outside the ring but agree he has that dark spiteful side in the ring. He’s quite similar to Josh Taylor in that manner.

 

He is an exciting fighter and seems a genuine guy. So, if he good enough i hope he can achieve the riches he deserves. This doesn't answer your question.

 

Buatsi is boring. Sky and Matchroom trying to push him as the next ppv star is going to fail miserably. Its not just about how good of a boxer he is in the ring which he don't really know yet. Its about whether he draws interest from the casuals and how he draws it.

Andre Ward is an example of a great technical boxer but couldn't sell out his own living room. Ditto Rigondeaux.

Like someone previously pointed out, you have to be extremely well liked or extremely disliked to draw crowds, sell tickets and attract TV companies. Floyd Mayweather is an example of extremely disliked because of his money Mayweather persona. He sold out arenas just based on people wanting to see him get beat. Of course it helps he was such a great technical boxer but him splashing the cash in front of everyone's faces and bragging about is what drew people to him.

Prince Naseem. Another example. Flash flamboyant arrogant persona. Inside and outside of the ring

Manny Pacquiao. High intensity boxer, punches in bunches and all around nice guy. Extremely well liked in his heyday.

Buatsi I'm afraid, has nothing appealing about him whstsoever. Nice guy he may be.

 

Pacquiao had **** all about him personality wise apart from being “a nice guy”.

Golovkin, Canelo, Joshua, Lomachenko aren’t exactly blessed with charisma.

People will pay to watch the best, it’s as simple as that. Especially in such a small market like the UK.

It’s already, read made! The Buatsi vs Yarde storyline will just grow and grow. Especially if one or both win world titles. It will be a massive fight that the public will be calling for and when it does happen it would possibly be a Wembley bout with a title or two on the line.

 

Neither has a mainstream appeal yet. But yeah down the line it could be a big fight. But a big if. Warren and Hearn would have to strike a deal.

 

2 of those in Golovkin and Lomachenko are not PPV attractions.

Pacman was clearing out divisions one by one. His meteroic rise ensured he gained a truckload of fans along the way. That coupled with his nice guy personalty helped make him a ppv star.

Buatsi won't do any significant ppv numbers as he hasn't got any of the ingredients needed to be one.

 

Taylors definitely got it, have heard stories how he goes about his business outside the ring.

 

Buatsi's fighting style is the PPV attraction. This is in stark contrast to Floyd Mayweather, who needed to create his villain image to get fans to watch his less attractive (to most casuals) boxing.

 

Don't think he'll be a crossover superstar ( unless he faces some massive names) but i can see him headlining a few ppv's in a couple of years. As it stands sky only have Whyte and Joshua as ppv fighters. They tend to want 3. Whyte is a loss or two away from losing his ppv crown.

With respect though Billy, that's a straw man argument. No one is denying he has talent - but in the modern era (especially given as he's a Matchroom fighter) you need to be marketable to appeal to a wider audience.

Being appealing to the wider public is basically the only reason why Dave Allen is headlining an event this weekend; there's no denying being marketable is a necessary evil.

 

Immense talent is a marketable quality.
