Roast me Maybe if there was real competition which he was likely to get put up against I'd take notice. Not with Arum there. So still I remain...uninterested. Last time I watched him live was against Rigo and we know how that went.
It's a pity he doesn't have a glass jaw and regularly gets throttled from pillar to post like Khan right? He's just so ****ing good, he's unrelatable for fans of complete and utter mediocrity.
I know that was only Crolla and there was only ever going to be one winner and i also get that there are much more exciting fights to put Loma in that would give us much more entertainment for our money and we dont seem to be getting them. But for me its like watching Floyd. I hated Floyd but when the fight started, even though i desperately wanted him to get face first on the canvas knocked the **** out i always found myself in awe at his talents. Last night i rooted for Crolla but i very much enjoyed the talent, the footwork, the punch selections, the timing, the reading of his opposition. The man is a straight up master at the art of Boxing and i cant help but admire a master at work doing his thing.
Cant argue with that, Miniq acknowledges the talents of the man but the fights are **** poor when frustratingly there are good fights for him that dont ever seem to be happening. I think that view on things is fair enough. You aint hating on anything as such, maybe Arum. But i dont agree, he is worth watching as far as im concerned who ever he is against, within reason ofcourse but i think Crolla is within reason.
Thats the way I look at it. The Crolla fight doesn't deserved to be rubbished , but it doesn't deserved to be praised either. Real boxing fans don't tend to salivate over ridiculously one sided mismatches.
That is true, i suppose he started at such a high level from fight 1 anything less than the very best is deemed disappointing. It seems the fights we are desperate for are Lopez, Davis and Garcia and when we get Crolla, a fight with only 1 obvious winner is just frustrating. But that level of opposition is absolutely acceptable, these guys aint bums, far from it. But cuz its not those names we are desperate to see him in with i can see how it may feel like hes in against bums. But like i said, im not like that, i want those fights but until they come im guna enjoy the artistry.
He has had a pretty amazing career already in short time and is extremely relevant to the sport right now. His popularity among casuals is wide and he gets 10X the praise as say Roman Gonzalez received for doing less. So I more than understand some dislike or level of rooting against him based on fan and media, as the OP said, constant jerking off about the guy when they don't do the same for comparables.
Yeah, we know how that went. But if a 2 time olympic gold medallist can't beat him, then who the hell can? I'd love to know. He is unbeaten at 135, and I think he'd be unbeaten at 135 in any era. Rigo, Gary Russell, Linares. All 3 of those are elite, or were elite at one stage. And Rigo I would argue is one of the most talented fighters p4p even now. Gary Russell is no slouch either. Who else beats Rigo? I can't even see Warrington beating Rigo (Would be close though), can't see Santa Cruz, Frampton, Valdez...none of them beat Rigo, they all get outpointed big time. The fact he toyed with Rigo tells you everything you need to know. There are very few in history who I see doing what Loma did to him that night. And Crolla is a world level fighter. That's just another name that anyone would welcome on their record. He's not elite, but he's good enough for you to say 'This was a decent win'.
