So much for Sonny "towering" over Marciano in the "Dream Fight" discussions!!!

Personally, I think, if it happened there and then the guy who has been out the ring 9 years going in against the reigning world champ is at a huge disadvantage in a sparring session this is obvious.
However I’m pretty sure Rocky would still show enough to make Liston realise that prime for prime it would of been a hell of a match.

Photos can be really deceptive though. Lens distortion and minor shifts in foreground/background relation can produce optical illusions that almost have to seen to be believed. For example I can show you different photos from the selfsame fight, in one of which Louis looks much bigger than Walcott and the other Walcott looks bigger.
Give me a minute and I'll see if I can find them...
edit: Here we go:

I've also seen photos taken from certain angles where Holyfield looks bigger than Bowe and Lewis.

Same with Ali and Marciano

In this photo, Ali towers over Marciano:

But in these photos, Ali and Marciano looks much closer in size (Ali is still noticably taller):

https://d279m997dpfwgl.cloudfront.net/wp/2018/07/Ali-and-Marciano-bigger.jpg

To avoid this problem, you need to find photos where they're even to the camera, rather than one being farther away than the other

Damn, they had a tough strict dress code for refs back in the 60s!

Wow, not much separating these two in size judging by this photo. This forum well mostly the general forum is OBSESSED with size, I swear they’d probably go on record saying the NBA is full of could be Heavyweight champs since so much emphasis is put on height and weight. They need to all look at this photo, I swear they make Marciano out to be Marvin Hagler’s size lol. Thanks for sharing the pic..

As far as the question, Rocky was tough as the come so Sonny isn’t icing him cold no way. But he would get the better of the older Rock for sure.. Prime for Prime it’d be a savage encounter.

There's a new thread about Tyson Fury's "true" height like every day in general

I know :hang I’ve been watching Boxing Live for about 35 years and I’ve been a member of this Forum since the beginning and some days I come here and read some of the thread titles in the general and I just shake my head and leave.. Theres no point in even debating some of the people on here because it doesn’t matter what you say they have their mind made up. Like Size does matter in some cases but to some posters it’s like the deciding factor. Like for real when I see a thread that says Jarrell Miller would’ve killed prime Mike Tyson because he’s just too big I just roll my eyes and keep scrolling. :D

Listed in the Clay match as 84", in the first and second Patterson match at 84" and in article on the Joiner bout, I also found 84". In fact, I have seen nothing to the contrary. Can you provide evidence that the 84" figure is incorrect? If so, what do you propose was his actual reach?

Do the words "clumsy" and "unbalanced" now equate to "explosive"? Liston could be pretty light on his feet for a guy his size, much more nimble than the Rock, much better balanced. He was just a superior athlete in almost every regard.

Which guy was decked by ancient sub-200 pound fighters? Where does this "better chin" fiction find any base in reality? Hell, Liston got his jaw cracked and neither stopped nor went down.

I suspect that Marciano could have brought up a bit of the old magic for a couple of rounds.

A world class fighter will remain a force in sparring, long after they have ceased to be a force at world level.

LOL. What's going on in this thread? Marciano's practically the same size as Sonny Liston now? You guys are characters.

Stop thinking about size for just one second of your life. Walcott and Moore clearly hit harder than, lets say, Ali, who knocked Liston out in one round (perhaps). Marciano wasnt even HURT when he went down, he got up quickly due to being caught off balance

It's common belief that Liston's reach was shorter, even KoolKevin stated this. I personally dont care either way

Marciano was quite explosive in 51-53, watch his fights against Matthews, Layne and Walcott 1. Lost some of it after the Charles wars IMO. Yes he was still quite awkward but he could wing himself quick

Is he really. Really.

32 years old, never fought outside of Japan (as a HEAVYWEIGHT) and not a name on his resume that I recognize (outside Chauncy)...

At what point in his career did this occur? What was Marciano doing at a similar age?

Why even post such intellectual dishonesty.
