Not all sports, and certainly not boxing. Boxing just ebbs and flows and has done for years. The JMW, MW, SMW and HW divisions of the 90's were all better than what they are currently.

You gotta be dumb to have a thread like that. Actually I kinda remember a similar thread here about Tyson fighting a caged gorilla and someone saying something about Duran beating up a horse. Lol.
boxing stopped improving. Somewhere about the 1990s. Amatuer boxing dipped a little, and then the whole sport went down as well as MMA being a factor.
Just compare the divisions I mentioned. Look at today's MW division compared to the 90's. There hasn't been any evolvement. It just ebbs and flows. If boxing had evolved as a whole since the 90's, then every division today would be stronger and the fighters would be noticeably better. Yet that's clearly not the case. Also, I don't know how on earth you could class the 90's as: 'the dark ages' The 90's was a great decade for boxing.
Canelo, GGG, and Saunders (if he ever fights at middle again) would have all been among the toop 5 fighters in the ranking during any year in the 90`s. Canelo v Jacobs will be better than any middleweight fight that happened during the 90`s, there weren`t many great fights in that divisiion during that decade.
They're very good-great fighters who would have been in the mix. But how can boxing have evolved, when I've just given you 4 divisions from 25-30 years ago which were stronger than today? How can that be possible? Like I keep saying, boxing hasn't evolved since the 90's. It just ebbs and flows. The LHW and CW divisions are stronger than they were in the 90's, but JMW, MW, SMW and HW aren't as strong as what they were back then. To be honest, I don't see how anyone can argue otherwise. And noting the strength of those 4 divisions from the 90's just blows your theory completely out of the water. Because 25-30 years is a significant amount of time. I agree with you that we did miss out on lots of great fights in the 90's. Politics prevented a lot of them from happening. But we still saw some great fights. When you say that Canelo vs Jacobs will be better than any MW fight that we saw from back then, are you talking about in terms of possible excitement, or are you talking about in terms of quality? Although we missed out on some great fights, there were still plenty of fights that we did see between 2 quality operators. During the 90's, we saw the following matches: Toney - Nunn Toney - McCallum Toney - Johnson Kalambay - McCallum Kalambay - Graham Roy - Hopkins McClellan - Jackson Benn - Eubank Watson - Eubank Finally, if you look at all of the MW's of the early 90's, I don't think that Canelo, GG and Saunders would all definitely have rated in the top 5. The division was absolutely stacked.
I believe Toney v McCallum were fights far above the others on this list, Jacobs v Canelo featuring world class skills, in all other matches you listed one of the combatants was constantly making mistakes. Nunn was far better v Tate, Johnson wasn`t as good as Jacobs or Canelo, Graham was overrated, Jacobs and Canelo will display more offense than Roy and B-hop did in their turgid bout, McClellan v Jackson didn`t display any skill, Benn v Eubank wasn`t that good and neither wa Watson v Eubank, McCallum was awesome against Watson though.
I stand by what I say, but to show balance here`s a vid I watched about McCallum`s skills a while back, the stuff he shows here is way above anything Eubank displayed v Watson completely: This content is protected
