Sonny was the stronger man and better boxer/athlete with a lot more power...

I disagree. Ali whooped Listons ass 2xs for a reason... Ali at LHW has a lot more power than Rocky. Speed is power at that size..

Like what ? Sonny was the better athlete and a much better fundamental boxer. Rocky had plenty of opportunities to fight him and didn't. That was a good decision. That would've ended badly for him.

The fighter with the greatest 1 punch knockout is an attrition fighter. The man with an average KO round of 4 is an attrition fighter. The man described by Walcott as a 1 punch knockout artist is an attrition fighter

I'm going to tell you what actually happen. The Ezzard Charles wars, a lack of love of the training and the long break between title fights broke him down, made him softer

Oh you're going to tell me? Moore said he just wore him down,he also said both Sheppard and Durelle hit him harder. Charles said Satterfield hit him harder.Cokkell said several guys hit him harder but none so often.Louis said he was hit the hardest by Al Delaney but of course they were all mistaken.
ps Want to guess how many guys Cleveland Williams laid out inside 4 rounds? Try 41!
Marciano being an attrition puncher was the exact reason he ruined so many fighters,eg Charles ,Layne,Walcott,Lastarza. The guy that takes you out clinically with one punch without previously softening you up with a relentless bombardment doesn't inflict half as much sustained damage. btw Walcott was 38 years old.The Walcott of the Louis fights, five years earlier might have beaten Marciano.

Baker was still #1 at the time of Rockys retirement. Baker was rated throughout Marcianos reign and Archie Moore knocked that mother out.

Charles knocking out both Satterfeild and Wallace in back to back fights were the most spectacularl results from any rated fighter that year. He was named “logical contender” on the strength of them. And quite rightly.

I asked you when he was rated number one? I'm asking again. Marciano retired in1956, Baker was ranked number 8 that year. I'm saying he was never ranked number one, now prove me wrong!

When you spend the majority of your career as a purely regional circuit fighter, fighting purely regional type ham-and-eggers, then you tend to have those kind of stats. When Rocky actually graduated to the Big Leagues (at that time populated by OLD, SMALL heavyweights) his magical fists weren't quite as effective, even against these older, shopworn, smaller heavies. It's really as simple as that.

    1. When did Charles say Satterfield hit harder
    2. Charles' statement wouldn't make sense, since Moore said Marciano hit harder than Satterfield. Can't have both
    3. Where did Cockell say that
    4. You've seen the interview where Marciano says Louis said that he hit the hardest.
    5. If you said what I read, Marciano was softened by the lax lifestyle of championship, he disliked the training, and the Ezzard Charles wars drained him. He because softer, losing his punch. That's why he knocked out guys like Matthews, Layne, Walcott and Louis in 1-2 knockdowns after brutal shots, while he peppered down Moore and Cockell

It's even visible, Marciano looks much more solid at 193 against Simmons than he did at 189 against Cockell.

There was also a style adjustment with Marciano, more short shots and feints in the Moore fight than in, say, the Walcott fight

Moore was on the best win streak of his career and Charles was a year and half or something removed from being HW champ being only 32...think I saw someone refer to him as on the level of Ali against Foreman I’d say he was slightly better. Walcott was the best in the world at the moment...the age should t matter but performance and be performed Brilliantly till getting knocked out hardly senior citizens

Nice to see people have actually watched his fights and analyzed them as most of the posters have probably just watched the Louis fight judging by some of the comments.

He's going to be right in front of Liston the whole fight with at least a foot reach disadvantage, weight and height disadvantage and I doubt Rocky hits harder . Sonny by KO after Marciano goes down 3 times
