Macklin/Murray/Barker/Lee

Murray was the best of the lot in his prime. His performance against Martinez in Argentina, should have gone down as one of the best ever performances by a Brit. Had it had fair judging.

 

Probably Lee, for me, though perhaps a bit more fragile than some of the others. Macklin is badly underrated, especially on the general forum. A good, gutsy fighter. Murray the toughest and in his prime very a capable MW, especially with his size - though he doesn't have the record to back this up. Barker was decent though didn't deserve the nod against Geale IMO

 

What on earth are you smoking?!! Martinez was 38, clearly on the decline (seeing as he was destroyed by Cotto, a much smaller man in his next and final fight) and even after all of that - it was a very close fight! People look back on that with rose-tinted specs now, but back then that fight was very close whichever way you had it. Read the RBR on here - there's almost a 50/50 split on which way it went.

One of the best ever performances by a Brit? It's not even in the top 100.

Murray was the clear winner and clearly the stronger man on the night, he knocked him down a couple of times but the referee only scored one knockdown

Sergio Martinez was P4P number 3 at the time behind only May and Pac. Had been undefeated for years, was the number 1 middleweight in the world . he'd just beaten Kelly Pavlik,Paul Williams, Sergei Dzinziruk, Darren Barker, Matthew Macklin, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr back to back in very impressive form.

The fight prior to the Murray fight. against Chavez is arguably his best ever perfomance, he was technically unreal that night.

Martinez's prime years where when he was in his 30s! He started boxing late remember!!!

OH....But.. AFTER the fight.. Martinez is old, Martinez is shot blah blah blah! Yeah yeah yeah whatever, it's very easy to say that afterwards!

 

Sergio was skating all over the place like a new born deer on the soaking wet canvas! A guy who relied totally on his footwork! His knees were injured too! And still ... Still... The much bigger Murray couldn't win.
