I am not sure but hopefully some one can fill some of these blanks in.

Unfortunately like Calzaghe pre Lacy I didn’t take GGG seriously prior to the Jacobs fight. I have since been impressed by him and his career, but I don’t really know why some of these other fights didn’t come off. Interested to learn though if someone does know

Have a look at the mugs the man was fighting. Hardly going to make yourself a valuable commodity.

I was pretty impressed with him from the beginning. Then Brook made him seem a bit one dimensional, and Jacobs and Canelo strengthened this impression. I feel a true elite of the divisions history should be able to separate himself more clearly from these guys. On the other hand, GGG was 35-36 when facing them. That's why it's frustrating that he didn't face higher quality fighters when he was younger.

Yeah. But why then didn't his management push it more? I mean, the difference between him and other great amateurs like Loma and Rigo is glaring when it comes to how long it took for GGG to start facing world class fighters. Loma had faced Salido and Russel within three fights and just over eight months of turning pro. It took GGG 25 fights and about 7 years to face friggin' Rosado. Why this huge difference?

Ummm .... it's common knowledge that Golovkin was the most avoided guy in boxing for quite a few years. He was literally begging to get a crack at Sturm. Here's a timeline:

    https://sundaypuncher.com/a-timeline-of-gennady-golovkins-quest-for-a-big-fight-9ac0d387d37c

    In 2010 Mundine swerved him.

Sturm is well known to have ducked Golovkin and was protected by his promoters from having to face GGG.

Golovkin was set to get a fight with Pirog and then Pirog went and ruined his back.

He tried to fight Martinez and Martinez' management told him to take a hike.

He was prepared to go down to 154 for Mayweather and Floyd never wanted that smoke, despite the #easywork theme he tried to punt.

He signed to fight JCC Junior and that never happened.

Saunders was open about dodging Golovkin until he aged, its on film.

He was happy to fight Froch at 168 and Froch decided he was too busy despite being #toobigtoostrong.

There was a series of on-and-off again negotiations with Ward that ultimately ended up nowhere, probably (truth be told) because there wasn't enough money available to feed both of them.

    Eubank Jr lost his pen.

Even the Jacobs fight nearly fell through after Jacobs demanded more money for him to cash in on his mandatory shot.

    There are some others.

That timeline starts 2010. What about the four years before that?

The negotiations with Ward went nowhere because GGG wanted no part of that, according to Ward. And Sanchez confirms in this article that they didn't want Ward until GGG had made a bigger name for himself at MW: https://www.ringtv.com/182801-gennady-golovkins-trainer-we-have-the-best-fighter-in-the-world/

As for the others, I can easily see that they wanted to avoid GGG. Really too bad that the Pirog fight never happened.

Was there ever talk about a fight with Williams?
