It’s time for a return. It got stale and was ended. But now it’s ripe for a return. York hall, great atmosphere, sky tv. I’d definitely go. And with the record amount of pro boxers in the UK there’s a load of ambitious, unproven pros just waiting to get their chance. Let’s get it back on !
I support this motion. Only thing is, now with the money involved, I reckon more boxers who would have previously competed in prizefighter would be too scared to in case they lose their unbeaten records.
Ultimate boxer has kind of taken over the mantle. Hopefully they gain some traction and sponsorship so they can attract some higher ranked fighters. How about a UK contender series? Could have 'Big' Dom Ingle and 'Tesco' Joe Gallagher as coaches and maybe hosted by Tony 'Bomber' Bellew.
Get the right level and you’d be fine. Not the big names but good up and comers that are toiling on the small halls and can’t get the push to the next level. They’re normally fighting for next to nothing anyways. Or throw in a well known name coming off a few losses who needs to get relevant again. Take it around the county too more. Liverpool, Belfast, Glasgow etc.
I’ve not seen this one. How does it compare to the old prize fighter ?? They had a US contender with Stallone that was dog shite.
@hightower I’m with you! This tournament had real potential, but was badly organised and I’m not sure how much money was behind it as it could’ve been so much better. The Rogan and audley ones were fun! I can still remember the organisers coming on this site and giving us a link to get a free t shirt which I did but it was an xl, I wore it once but too big and made me look stupid I think I ended up cleaning the car with it lol
I knew rogan would win that one. A rough tank of a man with a huge right hand. I don’t think the other contestants knew what was coming. The buckland win was epic too icing Sykes in 20 seconds. Also the Murray and Rendo fight was a belter.
Surely with the money involved now people would be more inclined to lose their unbeaten records? Most of them dodge decent fights so that they ultimately get a good pay day. Something like this would give them that incentive? Bring it back. Sky / BT need more British boxing shows and it can uncover some good talent too.
I didn't think I would hear a call to bring it back. It is better than nothing. A card of mismatches is pointless. I would prefer it to be a tournament between British fighters. British title at the end. Quarters and semis all done over 6 months. Have 3 weights going so it doesn't feel so long between fights. The problem with 3 fights in 1 night is injuries cuts and easier routes. Just my take on it
