    Thud and Blunder!
N.B.Comiskey played Gus Dundee[Ernie Schaaf] in "The Harder They Fall."
He was later convicted of ****.

Another example of raw crushing power...even after 79 fights at the end of his career.

    Two big strong boys.

Yes but he had been in wars with the top men of the division since he was 21!

Exactly. Liston was never 6'1'', he was around 6', and it wouldn't surprice me if he was actually 5'11½''. In photos standing next to Marciano, Patterson and Johansson, he appears a man of average height. Also, his wingspan was never 84'', it was 80½''.

I think I think those losses are a testament to a fighter that doesn't prepare for fights like he should, Max loved the good life and boxing at a high level is not conducive to easy living. Hagler said it best about it being hard to get up and run at 5am when you're sleeping on silk sheets.

Baer would have towered over Sonny. Max Towered over Joe Louis after all. And we all know Louis was taller than Sonny anyway

Sonny Liston wasn’t very big this shouldn’t come as too much of a shock. He was sort of tube typed? Not broad for a HW - Ali looked a weight class bigger and he didn’t exactly dwarf Floyd Patterson who could’ve been a LHW. He was 210lbs in his prime or thereabouts.

For comparison Im 5'6 and everyone 5'7 and above seems enormous next to me specially when i played basketball..I always had trouble shooting against taller people....when i was open I was in the 50 percent shooting range.,..put someone 5'6 and a half to guard me and my shooting dipped to below 25 percent lmao...

Another problem comparing fighters next to one another is that quite a few likely fudged their heights.

So, when moving from one flawed reference to another you can end up building a Leaning Tower of Pisa. :D

I always felt that Baer was at least 6’3” - but with so many others falsely claiming their heights - he likely was a 6” 2 1/2” - quite tall in the flesh and taller than a lot of others falsely claiming 6’3”.

I’ve seen publicity stills of Baer alongside actor Gary Cooper, not a lot to choose between them but I’d give Cooper the edge.

Imo, Patterson was never 6’ - possibly 5’11” at best with shrinkage in later years.

For Liston, I think 6’ 1/2” might be a fair approximate.

Jim Jeffries is a head scratcher. Sometimes he looked a fair 6’1” (6’2” and 6’ 2 1/2” being inflations) but I’ve seen pics of Jeff (though he was older but not ancient) standing with Jim Thorpe (listed as 6’1”) and Jeff appeared a touch shorter.

Here’s one such pic on the set of a movie along with other cast members: -
