Recent trend towards quitting to save face in british boxing?

None of them quit? They were just out of their depth against world class/elite opponents.

It was another huge rogering for the PPV Mugths mate - yes incredible this 95/5 probability fight was PPV.

You've got to laugh at some on here.

People cant have it both ways. Chastise refs when they don't stop a fight and then chastise fighters who are often over-matched, completely out of there depth if they don't want to continue.

At the end of the day, the corners, specifically the trainers have a duty of care to protect there fighter and more need to pull there fighters when its not even competitive but are taking a beating.

At the end of the day, no one here is going to pay a boxers medical costs, if they receive life changing injuries. Just because they don't want to be labelled a quitter by some keyboard warrior who's likely never laced a glove in there life-time.

I admit theres a difference in conning people to pay PPV, big ticket prices etc, when a fighter knows they have no chance or wont put the effort in.

For the normal every weekend matches that get made, when an opponent is so severely out matched, there comes a point when it's not even entertainment any more.

 

I respect both of you as posters but Kash and Amir chose to act like cowards so that's what I will lable them.

Kash started biting like he fighting in the streets and Khan quit. I have respect for EVERYONE who fights, but that respect goes when they act like a coward. Some people even saying Khan made a good decision quitting as he was going to get knocked out anyway...what a load of bs!!!

I just say it how I see it...if you think trying to find a sneaky way out of a fight isn't the move of a coward then you and I was raised different

 

Bro...you can't get paid millions, talk a big talk how you going to win the fight etc and then quit..it don't work like that. Boxing is a COMBAT sport, its fighting!!!

You know what can happen in the ring. If you scared about getting hurt and f*****g medical bills then boxing aint for you.

 

My point wasn't about Khan in particular, its peoples views in general.

Someone like Eddie.G who should of been pulled by his corner, or the ref who should have stopped the fight. Being pulled in that situation isn't quitting, it's being sensible because he was too tough for his own good.

What I'm saying is, if a fighter has had enough and the fight is starting to verge on being so one sided it isn't even competitive anymore, there is no point in them taking sustained punishment. In that situation the corner and referee have a duty of care.

Eddie.G and others like him knew the dangers of the sport, however some of them likely could of been saved, if there corner or referee had taken the decision out of there hands.

In the above example it was clear he should of been pulled from that fight before the final round, 'quit' even, now he requires life-time medical care. It's ok though because it's a combat sport right!

If he had told his corner he didnt want anymore after say the 11th you'd of branded him a quitter likely, even though it had become so one sided and it wasn't vaguely competitive anymore.

There are some risks that you cant control but there others that officials, your corner etc can control.

 

Would you label Mike Tyson a coward also, he took a hell of a beating by douglas but hung in there and got KOd eventually.

The same in the first Holyfield fight, took his beating and got stopped, so biting Holys ear off to get out of the fight as many say, does that make him a coward too, or was it a moment of madness.
Was Mike Spinks genuinely KOd by Tyson or did he fake it knowing what was coming next, I could go on..

Some fighters act differently depending on how it is going, some go crazy and some just know that they have got into deep waters and had enough, no shame in that.

To label any fighter a coward is largely unfair, it takes real guts to get in that ring, and when everybody else gets out, it becomes the loneliest place in the world, just you and the other guy about to have a fight.

No cowards in any ring in my eyes fella.

 

I know it takes big balls to step in the ring, no doubt about it...but any man that looks for a way out is a coward in my opinion. I got more respect for someone standing there ground and taking a beating. ..just the way I was raised.

Mike Tyson taking a beating against Douglas dont make him a coward.

Biting Holyfields ear, act of a coward in my opinion.

Khan quitting is an act of a coward.

Listen if they are standing there taking clean shots and not defending them then the ref should stop it.

When I boxed I wouldn't quit no matter what and please believe I have taken many beatings.

We ain't gonna agree on the matter mate lol.
