Maybe they can squeeze a little more from Hearn but sadly, although Ortiz is a good boxer, he's not American, he looks ancient, he can't speak English, doesn't have any following to speak of, isn't going to sell a lot of DAZN subscriptions and so its difficult to justify paying him significantly more than would take to land an Andy Ruiz Jr or Michael Hunter.

Still, the way the story's written Hearn may make a further offer so we may still get to see the fight. If he looks elsewhere Ortiz may regret his advisors being quite so bullish. It's smart business to turn down a first offer, as long as it doesn't cost you the deal. 100% of nothing is nothing.

 

I dont think the problem is with Ortiz. He will want the money 100%. It`s probably his promoter. Or the next variant is his is in the off season and in a roi* cycle and knows he will get caught by VADA.

 

Yep he got $375K vs Kaufmann so only needs to fight another 13-14 times to make the money he just turned down, he just needs to keep fighting and winning for the next 4 years, lol.

Even if he gets the Wilder rematch how much does that earn, 1 maybe 2 mill if he's really lucky. It won't be PPV.

DLH didn't have this problem. Fighters seem to think fighting AJ entitles them to earn figures they would never have any chance of earning otherwise. Amounts way bigger than previous purses and quote frankly unrealistic amounts.

The actual prize of winning the belts and then trippling their worth is irrelevant.

 

Saying you want what Miller was getting is one thing, asking for significantly more than that is just ridiculous. Calling $5 mil a lowball offer is BS when you are Ortiz who isn't doing anything to make this fight any bigger than what the Miller fight was.

But for us fans it's beyond sad that the top guy and biggest draw in the division can't get the best opponents to fight him no matter the money. It's a first in boxing history, I think, and a very bad indictment of the state of the division today.

 

Don't think an AJ loss on short notice should be such a deterrent to turn down the biggest paycheck of your life. Ortiz & his camp will eventually regret not taking this fight.
