He probably priced himself out because he knew he'd pop positive again with VADA testing, which would kill any chance of him getting a big fight/payday again

If im honest from listening to their statements and interviews im not even sure how involved Team Ortiz was even involved in the negotiation or what ever the hell you can call it other than a direct refusal. Even though it hasnt been said it sounds to me somebody made the decision for them.

5 million and what comes with victory was a hell of an offer. If the fact it wasnt 6.5 hurt his feelings he should take comfort in the fact he was getting 5 thats 5, FIVE million. I just dont think he was allowed to take it, had he had the choice he would of taken it, hes not insulted at a lowball. But Al Haymon runs a tight ship and he isnt looking to do Eddie Hearn or Anthony Joshua any favours whether it sucks for his fighter or not. Just like they did to Wilder when he was offered 100 million. Loyalty can be cruel sometimes.

Thank you Ortiz and goodbye, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Enjoy the rest of your career.

    Complete opposite with AJ though.

You can be huge but you will still get pittance compared to his purse.

If I was Ortiz I’d take it, turn up, throw everything you can in the 1st round and if that doesn’t work then quit on the stool and retire a happy old man

There's one final counter-offer Hearn is preparing apparently, expecting 10mil is absurd so it won't be close to that. I'd be curious to know if this will be the largest purse for a challenger to a title in history (discounting former champs) if it goes over the 6.5mil mark. Does anyone know what is?

That's what I'd do. Say 'we tried, made a very generous offer, but we came to realise that all the talk from Luis was just that, talk. We only want an opponent who is desperate to be world champion and sadly it seems Ortiz is not that man. We move on and rest assured we will find someone who has genuine hunger to write their name in boxing history'

I would have thought that this would be the right time to catch Joshua. He's coming off a long break, the longest he's had since turning pro and more significantly he's fighting away from home. NOW is the time to take him on. He's possibly a little ring rusty and if it's a hostile crowd that could make him distracted as opposed to a crowd screaming his name and cheering when he barely connects, which he would have got fighting at home.

I hoped it would be Ortiz, who is a far better boxer than Miller, it would have been a good name on Joshua's resume.

Don't know what it is but I can't think of anyone who wasn't already a title holder or a former title holder who challenged for the heavyweight title getting anywhere near $6 mill. Hell most champions barring Tyson wasn't even making that when they were champion unless they were going up against a former champion or unifying.

He can get the same amount for a Wilder rematch with a full camp, so why would he accept a lowball on 6 weeks notice?

What a moron, missing out on a serious amount of money when he hasn't got long left in his career. A real shame as it would be a better fight than Big Baby.

Ortiz has always been full of crap IMO. Him and Pulev are the two most overrated contenders of the last 20 years IMO.

It's not even like they always look good on the eye test and yet they get hyped to the heavens despite their obvious mediocrity in comparison to the incumbent champions they're picked to dethrone.

he should have taken it. If he loses he had an excuse that he was not in shape.
