For such a limited fighter who relies on his strength, power, and will to win he isn’t your typical plodding come forward brawler. He has also shown intelligence and ability to control distance and even adapt. I was really surprised how he was controlling a master boxer in the middle rounds by taking his time and calculating his distance, not just constantly bullrushing. He sort of reminds me of Marcos Maidana where his caveman brawling style isn’t pretty but his boxing ability is overlooked. I only wish he had someone who can further improve his style by adding a jab and a right hand to his arsenal. He’d be even more dangerous.
Agree wholeheartedly, I was trying to explain that to someone on here before the Estrada match. The reason I was so confident in him winning the rematch with Roman by KO is because for some reason I'm about the only guy that noticed that in the last 3 or 4 rounds of the first match, he subtly switched over to a backfoot combination counter puncher, using Roman's aggression against him. I figured he'd tried the same tactic in the rematch, only earlier when he wasn't as gassed, therefore his power would be far more damaging. Which is basically exactly what he did.
I saw him counter Estrada a couple times. Still he's fairly crude and limited. I'd say more crude than Maidana was. Maidana had more than one punch in his arsenal.
Watch how beautiful his counter punching and combination punching is in the rematch. And clearly he has more than two punches, if he opened up as much with Estrada he'd have opened himself up to counters and possibly getting dropped or stopped, and he realized that, because of his obviously underrated ring IQ told him not to. Rungvisai’s being southpaw, means it will take a bad bass conventional fighter to back him up and put some real hurt on Rung for the conventional fighter to win.
Based on what exactly? He didn't come close to being rocked, and yes... that even applies to the 12th.
He could very well lose to Estrada by decision, but I don't think he's getting stopped. The dude is tough as nails.
Wangek is an excellent boxer-puncher, I'm not sure why he gets written off as like Khaosai Galaxy mk.II
I think it's because 50% of his punches that he throws are mostly power shots and isn't afraid to take shots while coming forward. Galaxy was the same, and he also had very underrated boxing ability when he showed it from time to time.
I'd agree with the latter statement up to a certain point, but I think SSR's game has a lot more subtlety to it than Galaxy's did. That guy was just raw fucking power for the most part - with a bit of awkwardness (from his MT background) mixed in to make him extra dangerous.
SSR was fading fast while JFE was coming on stronger. JFE ripped SSR with brutal shots in the 12th. I just see JFE making the better adjustments in the rematch.
Go back and watch it, in the 12th Estrada threw 93, Sor Rungvisai threw 115, if that's your definition of fading fast, I'd hate to see what a sharp Sor Rungvisai could do. Sor Rungvisai made the better adjustments in the rematch against Chocolatito, he'll do the same in this one.
