Kownacki is insane to turn his nose up at that AJ money. No guarantee he keeps his 0 and gets another sniff at it.

Isn’t it telling how all these fighters are turning down career high pay days for a shot at the world title.

Instead they are happy for chump change with an option on Dee On-Tay at some point down the road...

I think it was a wise move on his part. He will get his shot and be more prepared for it.

Will he though. Personally I think he is a good level below top tier and and fighting Wilder and losing for alot less money doesn't make alot of sense.

Really taking a loss in this situation isn't going to affect his career at all except not getting the Wilder fight..

Can get back in a mandatory position easily and have another shot in the future..

Maybe, just maybe he wants to feel better about his chances. Money is not always the top motivating factor in a fighters decision making process.

For Ortiz, it was crazy to turn down the AJ fight because he doesn't have the years.

For Kownacki, it's not that crazy. He's not that old. I feel like he could get another chance at AJ within two years or so, and under better circumstances.

Although I feel like it probably would've been the smarter business move to take just the payday. He's gambling a lot that he won't lose his 0 to someone else -- someone who won't pay as much -- before he gets another chance at AJ. But whatever.

If he goes on to face Wilder soon though, he's an idiot. It would be the same result as taking on AJ, but a tiny fraction of the money. Or maybe he genuinely thinks he'll beat Wilder? I don't think he would, but I guess I can see Kownacki thinking otherwise.

Yeah I can agree with this statement . Hell of a tough choice tho not fighting in MSG and really up your profile but like you said it's not about that it's about being smart and planning your career , hope it pays off Kownacki in the long-term or this is gonna hurt him badly , either way choice was made and now he gotta live with it .

if he gets beaten before getting a title shot, he lost the gamble.
