Years ago the Irish boxing had a separate Forum. That got reduced to a Thread. The number and quality of the posts has fallen right off. Without some new blood posting on here the iriIr boxing thread will die out completely. The best Irish boxers are not based in Australia. Let's not get carried away cos Denis Hogan did a lot better than expected. Munguia was very overrated. Guys like frampton and Burnett are our top boxers, not the overseas lads. How about Hogan v Spike? Good fight. One I'd like to see.
Good win tonight for James D.i.c.kens. How about D.i.c.kens and David Oliver Joyce going toe to toe. That would be a some fight.
I think I was a little premature in calling for the closure of the Irish boxing thread. Perhaps all it needs is a bit of sprucing up. Like with a P4P list. I'll get one started: Top 10 Irish fighters P4P: 1. Andrew "Little Leprechaun" (or "Little Lepre" for short) Moloney - Next WBA Supa Fly mandatory. Future HoFer. 2. TJ Doheny - IBF Jr. Feather champ. Unifies against the WBA champ next weekend. This is what professional boxing is all about. Winning a world championship & then unifying against the other world champions. Not making a long string of meaningless title defences against a bunch of Nevilles. 3. Dennis "The Mexican Menace" Hogan - Uncrowned WBO Jr. Middle champ. The latest is that the WBO will be doing a re-score of his fight with Mexican Mungo (usually involves five anonymous judges). Also worth noting that there was no post-fight drug testing in Me-hic-co. 4. Jason "Big Leprechaun" Moloney - Lost a split decision in an IBF Bantamweight title tilt a couple of fights back. I'll leave it to others to work out who should fill places 5 through 10 on the list.
I'm not sure about that. I'll have to look into it. I think they were born in Australia but conceived in Ireland. It's a bit tenuous, but I think it's enough to make them eligible to be on the list. Whereas Dennis Hogan & TJ Doheny are Irish-Australians, the Moloney brothers are more like Australian Irishmen. At the very least, they are of Irish heritage. I think we can include them if they can sing a decent rendition of "Danny Boy". Australians usually sing it pretty good. This content is protected
They had cracking 50/50 spar in Derry Matthews gym few months back Jazza is a gentleman and as dedicated fighter I’ve ever seen. He was leaving young family for America evening of sparring for few months and still in gym sparring that morning against Davey.
Touch of Nicolino Locche there Sandman! Concieved in one country but born and reared in another. Mind you I can see why there might be a rush to claim the "untouchable" locche. The moloneys aren't quite in his league yet....! I see the only criteria to be in your top 5 Irish boxers is to be in Australia!!
Specially for you sandman...a quick glimpse of a genius at work....happy Easter! This content is protected
Do you think a fight like that could be put on in Ireland. A real barn Stormer that would draw a lot of attention. Who do you think would win Luke?
I don’t know anything about the opponent but he looks huge. TJ is obviously tough himself too. I hope he ca win. We need a boost. We need some good new posters in here too!!
Doheny fought well. I hope Hearn doesn't abandon him now. Bring Doheny back to Ireland, that's get some big shows on in Dublin with Taylor and Doheny headlining.
