In his most recent pictures Robert Helenius looks to be in better shape than ever before. At least looks wise.

True , I think the best strategy is to strike while the irons hot as they say . Clearly Kownacki or his team obviously don't believe Kownacki can win otherwise they would of taken it . But this all still comes back to the PBC blocking fights , so who really knows what boxers believe or want . Could be we are all wrong and Kownacki did want it and believed he could win it .

If Joshua continues to fight in America then sooner or later Kownacki's name will pop up again (provided he hasn't lost by then). I don't know what Kownacki's end game is, but maybe he's banking on beating Wilder or whoever holds the WBC and unifying with Joshua sometime down the line. Or maybe he's just scared of losing and would rather fight on the PBC circuit for peanuts. I don't know at this stage, but it's a bit of a gamble what he's doing either way. Time will make this a bit clearer.

Briedis hasn't looked good recently. I think he was, or is, nursing an injury.

His shape isn't the issue, so much as his mindset. He's lost the fire.

    My 2 cent is this:
If he was a top, top future prospect and with needed size and or skill i can agree with him. But he simply isn`t and his chance against Wilder or AJ is very slim. Boxing is dangerous sport and your career could be quite short and a short notice fight vs Joshua for 6,5mil. would have been the best choice for him and his family. And i don`t see how this could ruin his career a bit. It would help him even. We all know Wilder fight non-dangerous opponent and if he see danger in Kownacki he simply won`t fight him. But if he has a lose to Joshua, Wilder 100% will fight him.
So a loss to Joshua could only help his career. Just because you lose to the Champ, doesn`t mean your career is over.
He is 30, so he can establish as a mandatory soon enough.
And let`s face it, for a guys that are not real contender, atleast they are not top quality, boxing is about getting as much as you can.
And turning down career payday its idio*** business.
Even if he manage to fight Wilder, he wont get more then 500k or maybe million, and he will need to make 20 or 30 fight to earn the money that Hearn was giving to him.
Idi**** as hell. This dude will regret to the end of his life that he turn down this offer. He won`t ever get even close to that sum, mark my words.

He'd be making more money fighting Joshua once than fighting Wilder 5 times. It makes no sense because it is prize fighting. You can't separate 'feel better about his chances' from feeling better about making millions of dollars.
There is something fishy going on though.
We have the 3 most high profile HW's very, very unlikely to fight each other due to promoter and media deals and
we have fighters taking step aside money, that must be hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars less than some of the fights they are offered.
I'd love to know what clauses are in boxers contracts with the 4 biggest promoters. Are there clauses that prohibit them from taking fights?
    It's getting strange.

I only disagree with one part of that statement it's Boxing not Prize Fighting . That is also part of the problem . Money , money , money is not the point . The point is MSG , 4 belts , almost sold out last I checked and the glory of defending US soil against a foreign champ . It's the story as well . Anthony Joshua has clearly got every promoter and manager scared for their boxers .

Alternative plot to Rocky , set in 2019

"Hey Rocky you've just been offered a shot at Apollo's title. Incredible huh ?"

"Nah sorry i don't quite feel ready. And I've got to help Adrian in the pet shop. And one of my pinkies is a bit sore. And I've got to wash my hair that night"

    The end.

oldcanvasback if we have to be completely fair, he probably won`t get that much even if he fight 10 times Wilder.
What is Wilder opponent average honorary ? 400-500ะบ probably.

Do you think Miller sabotaged himself to get out of the fight? $5 million + %? If fear is that motivates them than yes. I'm more inclined to believe it's some sort of blackmailing or there are plots to freeze out DAZN or Hearn or GBP. It sounds like I'm wearing a tin foil hat but millions/billions are at stake and maybe boxing is as dirty as politics after all.

The Polesbury doughboy and Old Man River Ortiz turned down a king's ransom to fight AJ for three world title belts and instant stardom but best believe they would've jumped at the chance to fight Donkey for a bag of peanuts and one world title had Haymon given them a call.
