There is no need for you to defend any notion of Joe Louis going up In size without losing speed or any other crazy crap. You are barking up the wrong tree. In the wrong playground. Holding the wrong end of the wrong stick.

That is not what I am trying trying to push.

If a guy is strong at 196lb while a professional athlete, and he is still a professional athlete years later and weighing 213lb, in a strictly physical sense (not speed, not athletic ability, just strength to push somebody) he Is not going to be weaker.

 

Yes he is if he is prime at 196 and well past prime at213lbs.

I know exactly what you were pushing. Using Holyfield as your example obviously backfired. You were the one that brought Holyfield into things.

 

I doubt Joe Louis's physical strength declined at 37. It doesn't generally happen.

 

A real problem was that Louis had no right hand (ZERO, according to observers and himself) to throw to keep Marciano off of him. Legend has it that he had decent right hand.

Another real problem with the above contentions is that Qawi wasn't successful. He only won 2 of 6 rounds on the cards and that is being generous IMO. Foreman stayed where he wanted rangewise and at the very worse moments seemed to have trouble timing the huge openings appearing before him. That is called being old.

 

Qawi gets brought into the equation as though he was facing prime Foreman,its not only ludicrous, its patently dishonest,just like mentioning he had a bandage on his knee as though he was half crippled or something! ID!

Were you boxing at 37???? Of course joe Louis had more energy and power against Mauriello I said he was more of a athlete in my post! Notice how Joe diddnt mention strength? That’s because it’s a completely different thing. Strength and physical fitness are poles apart num nuts!

He mentioned power. Yes I was still boxing at 37 but not in competition and I know I wasn't as strong at 37 as I had been 10 years earlier.Gaining surplus weight doesn't make you stronger ,unless it is muscle and planned gain .
Nearly everyone gains weight as they age ,it doesn't mean they get stronger!

Don’t mean you get weaker either maybe you are just weakling I don’t know? Everyone I know who still trains hard doesn’t lose strength in there 30s you lose speed timing stamina etc but not raw strength. look at worlds strongest man competitions them guys aren’t often in there 20s

 

that makes for a convenient opinion, but it is generally not the accepted view.

I always felt as strong. You get slower to react, you get tired, but strength never left me.

I can’t think of any older fighter, who was not weight drained, who looked weaker in a clinch as he got old. I would be astonished if you can find any examples.

Walcott, Moore, Hopkins, Foreman, Holmes, I cant think of one.

 

Joe Louis was eating green beans and salmon, playing golf, banging chicks behind his wife's back, and enjoying his retirement while occasionally doing seminars or fighting exhibitions for the army. No matter how you try to spin things, he wasnt an active fighter between his last fight and when he came back after realizing how financially screwed he was.

News flash: holyfield, Hopkins, and other boxers didnt have long layoffs like Louis. They maintained their strengty because they were consistenly active and competing!

You do realize muscle needs to be trained on a regular basis to stay the same size and maintain the same power? If i could bench 300 lbs at 27 and then do nothing for 5 years im not going to magically have that same level of strength after picking up a weight for the first time in forever. Having "grown man" strength isnt going to put my muscles in a time machine and reawaken my old strength after 1 week.

Maybe instead of chopping wood and curling iron, Foreman should have just followed you guys' highly scientific approach and simply got in the ring with zero strength training since his "grown man" muscles would suddenly remember how they used to be and he'd have far more success. Maybe he'd have beaten holyfield in another timeline.

I must confess that i have erred. Clearly an inactive Joe Louis whod been sitting on his ass had even more strength in his late 30's in the basis that he was 8-10 lbs heavier than his prime weight. Not because he'd been diligently training in the gym during the off season mind you .
