If you watch the last round, you can clearly see Hamsho stumbling and reeling a bit as he gets pushed back by Hagler. His legs were giving way. It wasn't just the cuts.
A young David Tua was take in out in one round by Felix Savon. Okay, it was an amateur fight, and Tua was very young,
2 examples I was thinking about where a couple of guys got rocked by someone not noted as a banger was by Alan Minter. Minter was a very speedy boxer who wasn't a big puncher but a sharp hitter. In the 5th round of his fight with Mustafa Hamsho, who had an ATG jaw, Minter caught Hamsho early in the 5th with something and one could see Hamsho's body suddenly start to sway. He was coy enough to grab for dear life and he cleared his head and was back in it. But I just wouldn't have thought that would have come from Minter. Also, maybe not an ATG jaw, but a decent one was Sugar Ray Seales. Minter was bleeding under the right eye and had an abnormal swelling on the left side of his forehead and it didn't look like it was going to go on much longer. But Minter just caught Seales with a left hook in the 5th and the wind came right out of his sails and it was stopped in 5, which was fortunate for Minter. But both occasions surprised me.
Emile Griffith getting stopped in one by Hurricane Carter comes to mind. Jeff Harding getting stopped by Andries in their rematch. Jeff’s cement head absorbed everything Andries could give in fights one and three with barely a stumble but he was taken out in the rematch. Joey Maxim being taken out in a round by Hatchetman Shepard was an anomaly considering it was the only time he was stopped in nigh on 120 fights.
Not sure any of the opponents of Marciano you list were felt to have ATG chins by that point. They'd all been stopped and dropped a few times. Williams an ATG chin? Bob Satterfield didn't think so.
I don’t know. A lot has been made of it, that Hagler was rocked and his leg stifled when Hearns landed his first big right hand but to be honest, I didn’t really think it had that much of a effect as people make out.
Rodrigo Valdes' right hand wiping out Bennie Briscoe (their second fight) has to be up there. The only inside-schedule loss of Briscoe's career, and he was one tough dude. Hagler, Monzon x 2, Eddie Mustafa Muhammad, Rondon x 2 and probably a couple of other good names I can't remember off the top of my head couldn't do what Valdes did to Briscoe in that fight. Valdes taking him out like that is quite an achievement.
I didn't mean that. He was checked by a doctor for something, I can't remember what. I'll go back and rewatch and find out tho
There is a blur here with many selecting late career losses when fighters are far best their best and are vulnerable to crumbling .. other selections are dead on terrific .. Boza Edwards getting crusher by Navarette was classic Sumbu Kalamby flattened in a round against Nunn, his only career KO loss in mid career. Witherspoon bombed out in a round by Bonecrusher is a consideration Bonavena flattened by Ali in rd 15 Quarry stopped by Chuvalo ..
