sure, he was on roids when he beat chagaev…...but think About it: the guy was a Rugby Player and a bouncer. he didnt have an amteur Background, just had a few fights in mma. turned pro at 30. he is one of those typical guys you have Walking into gyms worldwide: Bodybuilder types that work as bouncers and think that cause they are tough on the street that they can fight. then you put them in with a guy half their size….…...and they get absolutely tooled!! usually, the dont come back. Long odds that they return and actually have an Amateur fight. it´s virtually impossible that they turn pro and have even remote success. that they actually become contenders or win a belt is totally crazy!! thoughts??
true. but spinks was a "bred" boxer, a three time AAU Champion and an olympic Gold medalist. what are the chances someone like that becomes a world class fighter?? Pretty likely. Browne was a bouncer of the street with no Amateur schooling. huge difference.
Eric ‘Butterbean’ Esch never became a heavyweight champion but manage to achieve the kind of fame and cult status that some heavyweight title winners can only dream about.
Well the fact that Browne had some sort of success tells you more about the modern game than it does about Browne.
1. There's no such thing as an overachiever. 2. Lucas Browne has never been a world class fighter. But well done to the guy. He was a tough fighter and did achieve a decent level with some decent wins. Just not world class. The whole "WBA world title" thing has become a joke now. It's become like those other meaningless "intercontinental titles" have been. Joshua holds the real WBA title ("Super" title"), and Trevor Bryan (who?) holds the WBA world title, like Browne did. Meaningless titles, less value than even a normal alphabet belt.
For those comparing Browne to Bean, ask yourselves this... could Browne pull off the rope-a-dope??? This content is protected
Browne was basically that bouncer that locals believe could beat Pro fighters due to seeing him in some bar/club scraps but it turns out he actually could. Not a great fighter but a tough man who was willing to fight whether it was boxing, MMA or Kickboxing.
