Abe Simon said he hit harder thab Joe Louis
Ezzard Charles said he hit harder than Rocky Marciano
Rocky Marciano callee him the hardest puncher he ever fought

The Charles KO alone probably qualifies him.

No. He certainly punched hard enough to keep any heavy in the pre-athlete era honest. But not an all time great.

He was a clever, shifty puncher at times who could create opportunities and openings. As pretty a thing as the Charles KO was, it was but a still shot in the greater film of his career. Let's not make it into more than it was.

It was probably one of the greatest one-punch KOs ever, certainly one of the best ever to decide the world's heavyweight championship.

Knocked Louis down x3, knocked Marciano down for the first time in his career, put down the great Ezzard Charles with a left hook. Terrific counter puncher and a two handed walloper

Somewhere in the top 20 for heavies IMO

Definitely in my Top 5 favorite.

But if you watch enough Walcott you see him trying similar sets-up. They are great when the work but they often don't.

He doesn't rate as a great puncher. Walcott had accuracy and countering ability, so he could floor top fighters who lacked defense, but that does not necessarily make him a top puncher.

Not sure what your criteria is for ATG puncher but he was a man who could knock out anyone w one punch if he hit the right spot. I don’t think he had the killed instinct of the ATG punchers though. Like many said here already he was a great counter puncher and often failed to capitalize on his hurt opponents

Hard to say, but I'll air on the side of yes.
His KO of Ezard Charles was a one punch kayo and is a Top 5 HW KO all time as far as I'm concerned

very tricky tough guy, he knew the angles and had excellent movement and timing, so as a pin point puncher he was one of the best. He dropped Louis 3xs Marciano once, and one shot KO'd Ezzard Charles and others and in his early career he didnt eat.

He was erratic but on a good night he could beat anyone
