You are right. Yes. I agree to an extent. But, at the same time, I don't think Tommy could have fought another fight in the same way Ray could have because Tommy wanted to always knock the other guy out. Once Ray decided to box Duran he won relatively easily. As for Hearns. Had he been jab and move guy or even a jab and right hand guy with a occasional left to the body, he could have probably beaten Ray by decision in 1981, and the Hearns at 154 in 1982 would have been much harder for Ray to beat weight and that experience. But he always had to go for the knockout.. But yes Ray's win over Hearns was not the same as if he would have stopped him say in 1982 when Benitez fought him.

Manny also said that Hearns’s legs were shot before the fight because Tommy’s buddies massaged them too hard pre fight.

Trainers say stuff, especially when their guy loses.

I disagree bud. Boxing is a mind game, Duran got in Leonards head which resulted in the tremendous fight we all got.

Duran would win in any case.

Just look at the 2nd " no mas " fight. Even then, Ray at his peak, with Duran who was sick, and not close to peak ,was having a rough go with Duran until he started his antics in round 7 demoralizing Roberto. It was a close fight , even when Duran had to lose 50 pounds, was not feeling well and was noticeably not full energy. (fight still was even ,and Duran was landing harder on the inside)

I will always see the 2nd Leonard - Duran fight as a cheap win for Leonard.

    Actually it is quite sad.

I don't know I think making an ATG quit in the ring is very impressive regardless if what the circumstances are

Leonard was the one digging deep trying to survive. Ray says to this day nobody has ever hit him like Duran did. Duran was just being himself. He brought that intensity to all his big fights when he was in his prime. The difference being that he was showcasing it for a larger segment of people and the $ being bigger.
