Say what you will but he has somehow managed to get himself to a lofty number 3 in the WBO ranking's and #12 by the IBF, but can he really do the unthinkable and win a world title ? and have is name aside the likes of Eder Jofre, Carlos Zarate and Jeff Fenech in the history books ? Next up for him is the unbeaten Tanzanian "Innocent Evarist" 9-0-2 with 7 KO's on the 25th May in Cairo, Egypt, and a win here could make him mandatory. I'm not a fan of his by any means, but i think it's a real plucky effort by him to get himself in the position he has, especially with hardly any backing, sponsorship and promotion and now finds himself on the cusp of a world title shot. Is there anyone who is even interested in this guy as a contender ? or would like him to succeed ?. As he receives no or very little attention or publicity and is disliked by the majority of boxing fan's ( who are aware of him ), there's a dark side of me which wouldn't mind me seeing him winning a world title. I'll be bumping this thread a day before his future fights just to keep the few updated, and who knows if he did win a world title could he turn people round and turn this thread into a appreciation thread ? stranger things have happened in boxing.
Weird thread. The way you have worded it makes it a difficult read. I think you are either family of Patel or you are the man himself. Barry Jones wants a word with you.
Sorry you find it difficult to read but i do state "I'm not a fan" and no I'm not related or him for that matter, just curious to see how the boxing community would perceive him if he were to keep on winning and did win a world title. And this thread is just a vehicle for people to give there opinion's on a boxer who apparently hardly anyone is talking or cares about (due to his own fault admittedly), and as a boxing fan I'm just interested in his progress somewhat against the odds. And's what's weird about the thread ? How did you manage to get so bogged down off a few separated paragraphs ? And by the way Barry had his chance and to my eye's sadly appeared to bottle it ( joke ) .
He's something of an enigma tbf, given he's all but completely disappeared from the radar for the last year or so whilst making progress in the sport which tbf deserves credit. He's undoubtedly talented, but obviously something of a "character", which of course is part act. I have to admit to liking him purely for putting Eddie's lapdog aka Kugan in his place. I'd watch his fights put it like that. No disrespect to Barrie Jones, but what matters is the scene here and now, not 20 years ago, and the UK badly needs more household name boxers. If Patel applied the filter a bit more and became grounded, then he could IMO respark interest with the right fight results of course.
I mean let's put this in context shall we, Patel is guilty of basically coming across and saying obnoxious disrespectful words. BJS has actually actioned far more lamentable deeds, and Fury is no stranger to outrageous comments as well. Kash Ali bit, butted and bit Price again, and Hearn was talking about having him on his shows before the night had even ended. Patel just needs to keep it shut for a bit and then moderate it if he gets some decent W's.
He does seemed to have toned it down recently, probably due to the lack of media interest after he got up people's nose's Kugan, Barry etc, and maybe looking back he probably knows he went about drumming up interest in himself the wrong way. He may well have matured now as he is in his mid 20's and his guile and indunity in getting to WBO #3 may well suggest this.
Assuming he performs, and that's a big assumption, it depends on the extent he's been blackballed by the promoters I suppose.
Oh dear!! Not being funny but the level of opposition Patel has faced is terrible. Can see his purses in Egypt and Hungary being relatively terrible as well. I think he will be given another chance by a UK promoter possibly as a opponent in a competive / semi-competive match..........and lose.
I respect what he's done, going over to Hungary and now Egypt and padding his record for a WBO ranking. He obviously is a difficult young man to work with (or even be in the same room as ... LOL), and that's probably why he's not fighting in the UK ....... and he's gone out and done it himself without the backing of anyone important. I'd like to see him succeed, at least get himself into a decent payday on TV. Not necessarily win anything but get his taste of the limelight.
I hope he gets the shot. Tete v Patel I would pay 20 on Ppv to see him get knocked clean out inside the first minute.
You were believable until you said ‘Barry bottled it’. That tells me you have a personal interest here, funnily enough there’s a very similar guy posting like this about Patel in another forum recently.
