Here is my personal top 10 and why the division is far from the 90s like I have seen some claim

    1. Anthony Joshua
    2. Tyson Fury
    3. Deontay Wilder
    4. Dillian Whyte
    5. Kubrat Pulev
    6. Alexander Povetkin
    7. Luis Ortiz
    8. Oscar Rivas
    9. Agit Kabayel
    10. Adam Konwacki

People who aren't active or aren't HWs (Usyk, Gassiev, Klitschko) aren't in cluded but I think Usyk is top 5 and and Klitschko is number 6

The top 3 are all not fighting eachother and I can't see them facing eachother (or again in Fury and Wilder's place). Wilder is technically a bottom 3 HW champion ever. Joshua, Fury and Wilder (whether their faults or not) just aren't facing the best competition in the division.

Whyte is facing good competition but nothing to write home about. He doesn't have a win over an elite HW. Joshua and Fury do, Wilder doesn't.

Povetkin, Pulev and Ortiz are all, at least, pushing 40. None have wins over elite Champions or have been recognised as champions.

Rivas, Kabayel and Konwacki are all good and could be the real deals, but I can't see Rivas or Kownacki being a HW champion, or even beating Usyk. I could see Kabayel depending on how he improves and what questions he has answered, like how good his chin is or how his power holds up against better guys.

It seems most HWs are not willing to face the best. Which is a shame because there are alot very good potential fights.

It's a good division, about as good as the 60s (-Ali) talent pool wise imo. But not the 70s or 90s

    Discuss!

I think you've covered it very well . Lots of potentially good fights but very little willingness from most fighters to fight each other.

The recent farce of big fat cheating baby Miller being roided to the gills followed by so called top boxers running away from Joshua like little girls was embarrassing for boxing.

Last couple of years have been ok but this year looks like it will be a complete stinker.

With lots of good prospects coming up this should be a decent era but HW boxing in terms of politics and ducking is an utter disgrace at the moment

I remember people saying the division was "saved" after Fury won the decision over Wlad... look what happened.

Yep and people said the next gen in Joshua, Parker, Wilder etc were going to save the division, now people are saying the same in regards to Ajagba, Dubois, Joyce, Yoka, Sirenko, Hrgovic etc.

People always trash the existing division, look to the prospects to save it, then when they reach the top trash them as well.

The HW division is garbage right now. People deluded themselves that "now Klitschko is gone it is strong" They're confusing "exciting" with "strong". Povetkin is pushing 40 and he is a top HW. Ortiz is as old as Moses. Pulev is Wlad's leftovers. Charr has a frickin belt, ffs. HW division is awful barring a couple of decent fighters.

And every other year it seems like we are finally getting a resurgence in big fights.
    Last year was quite sweet:
    Joshua: Povetkin, Parker
    Wilder: Ortiz, Fury
Fury: Finally made his comeback and topped it off with Wilder.
    Whyte: Browne, Parker and Chisora

Parker, Jennings, Chisora, Rivas(4 fights in 12 months), and Ortiz managed to squeeze in 3 fights. Michael Hunter with 4.
And a lot of the more popular prospects stayed quite active as well, while garnering lots of attention.

So far this year only 3 of the top 10 Ring Magazine heavies have had a fight, all against underwhelming opposition.
    Ortiz-Hammer, Pulev-Dinu, Kownacki-Washington.
And the rest? Well they are in similar fights.

:facepalm:It's truly been a **** year thus far.
 David Allen so far has the biggest(not the best) win of the year.

And Donkey Wilder is talking about Joshua for 2020...

    It's not too bad.
People talk about the 1990s being great but I remember 40+ year old versions of Holmes and Foreman coming back and getting ranked in the 1990s ...... and the likes of Bruce Seldon, Jorge Luis Gonzalez, Lionel Butler, Phil Jackson, Herbie Hide, Michael Bentt etc. were ranked contenders .... Frans Botha, Axel Schulz .... these guys were nothing special ..... Tommy Morrison was rubbish too ..... old versions of Tony Tucker getting umpteen title shots ..... Tim Witherspoon was coming back and getting ranked at age 38 ...... Michael Moorer was hot-and-cold and really a blown-up light-heavy - he was KO'd by a fat 45 yeat old Foreman !
Evander Holyfield was past his best by 1993/'94
Mike Tyson's prime ended in 1991 or before !
Lennox Lewis's career stumbled and spluttered along for half of the decade, and he was beaten by Oliver McCall, who was just a plodding zombie with a good chin and nothing else .

    Bit overrated nowadays, those 1990s.

I don't see the point you're trying to make here. Povektin went from #2 in the division to barely top 5 depending on who you are asking. Povektin isn't winning a belt in this era. Ortiz is in the same boat. An older guy being in the top 10 doesn't make the division weak. Nor does a guy who lost to Wlad being in the top 10. What does Char holding the WBA regular have to do with anything? The belt doesn't mean anything. Contenders looking for a title shot don't go the WBA regular belt. The only people who want to hold that belt are fighters who can't crack the top 10 but have the promotional backing to milk a paper belt.

Yep, it kinda sucks, the leader AJ went life and death with a 41 year. Second tier fighters are Wlad leftovers like roidless Povetkin and Pulev. Such fighters as Molina, Shpilka, Washigton, Breazeale and Dupuah are fighting for titles.

...... and 10 years ago, the division was in such a bad state a lot of people even had hopes that David Haye was coming along to "save" the division !
Those were obviously desperate days. LOL

This is some terrible spin, one man's "life and death with a 41 yr old" is another man's "blockbuster win over an ATG". Be fair.....

If beating up a 41 year old is a blockbuster win these days the division is in a sad state

Povetkin is 40 now and he is the worst he has ever been. Also, I would say Vitaly Klitschko was number 2.
