McCallum was great at countering to the body.

He didn’t destroy Watson with body shots. Watson who was best as a counter puncher just fought the wrong fight. He was trying to force the fight and continuously attack McCallum which is normally not his kind of fight at all. Mike was able to pick Watson off at range and Watson not used to throwing so many punches soon tired himself out. Still it was still fairly close on the scorecards at the time of the stoppage. McCallum did land body shots but his head shots were just as effective and more eye catching so it’s wrong to say Watson lost because of body shots but I guess it just fits in with McCallums nickname to say it was the bodyshots that did for Watson

Yeah you’re probably right. Like I said he looked a very good all round fighter but to me the body shots didn’t really stand out the way you thought it would for someone with his body punching rep and nickname. The head punches seem more eye catching and effective but I guess it was was the accumulative effect of the body shots that was his style.

GGG I think of as a great jabber. I didn’t watch a lot of his early championship years though....where is his body work evident to go back and see? I have actually thought it a weakness of his in recent years.

He was nice but there's isn't anyone there I'd change for him, except maybe Tunney.

I wish someone would gather the data so we could have an idea about how many body shot knockdowns/stoppages individuals fighters had, and against what caliber of opposition. I tried something like it with a few modern guys but it was pretty time consuming.

McCallum was a surgeon to the body ... not one devastating blow but precise shots that reduced the opposition piece by piece.

I’ll throw in James Scott for consideration ... maybe not top 10 but worthy of mention for sure.

Unless I've missed him SRR is the most glaring omission so far. His body punching often flies under the radar due to everything else. He was awesome to the body.
