Has Eddie Hearn killed the Golden Goose in the UK??

His recent and upcoming shows have been shockingly sh ite.

Where will it end??

I think fish eyes will pounce, he's already built up stable of UK boxers. This would have seemed unbelievable 3 years ago.

 

Hearn, like every promoter is all about the money and the money is in America. He has used the UK as his interview for America basically.

 

Not solely but he’s definitely played his (and a big) part.

Ultimately we need a new platform in the UK that can compete with the US finances, which is a near impossible task.

 

There's a gap in the UK now though.

I know the US is bigger but the UK is the 2nd biggest market globally. Boxing is massive over here at the moment.

 

The same Frank Warren who has been unable to meet the promised amount of shows he would put out on BT sport is now gonna take over the UK market.

Somehow I don't see it.

 

I think everyone realises the situation is terrible, but the problem is a lack of good competition. Frank Warren will not pounce, his shows this year have been completely forgettable. Fury is fighting in America, if Yarde/Kovalev happens it will likely be in Russia (not bad TV wise), Saunders while will get the WBO title and continue to fight once a year (not Warren's fault). Warrington/Galahad is a very good fight, but if Warren had actually had his way, Warrington would have been unifying with Valdez in America.

Sky should renegotiate their contract with Matchroom to allow other promoters on to Sky.

 

When you see Eddie mixing it up with the likes of De La Hoya and Bob Arum then you know he's not worried about the UK market at all. He's done what he can over here. He was packing out stadiums at will with AJ, let's be honest.

America is a different kettle of fish though and I can see him just driving forwards over there now rather than here. Anything Frank does over here is purely because of Eddie letting him and let's be Frank, Frank isn't going to do much anyway with the gap that's been created.

 

People are deluded when it comes to Warren, they want to get behind him so they dont come across as a 'matchroom fanboy' his recent cards have been shockingingly ****. The Dubois card was little better but he is miles behind Eddie. Love him or hate him Eddie is miles ahead, and he wont make the mistake of putting cheeseman top of the bill again!

 

It's a question of what constitutes an impact on British boxing. It may just be that we go back to the days when our best (Lewis, Hamed, Hatton) typically fought in America. And let's not forget, big domestic shows (Calzaghe Lacy, Haye Maccarinelli) began in the early hours to satisfy the American market.

Warren will do nothing.

 

Sky should try and get other promoters on board only if it’s the likes of a Goodwin who could also sort out matchmaking at area level on cards.

Without someone with a truckload of money putting on domestic cards on ITV/Channel 5 I don’t see how the situation rights itself in the short term- Sky seem very happy paying Matchroom a low yearly fee in return for the PPV proceeds. It’s crazy that Sky must be close to breaking even on their rights fees per yearly solely by their cut of PPV revenue.

 

Been stating this for a long time - any promoter should submit cards to Sky for approval with at least 3 fights on it of interest to the public.

Warren's best are going the US too. We'll be left with the leftovers of both promoters.

 

Hearn has simply outgrown the UK market, he's packed arenas and charged PPV for low quality cards.

It's up to SKY now and other promoters (Warren) to figure it out, this is not Hearn's problem.

hearn doesn't need sky.

in the past it was the opposite way around.

Hearn has become one of the biggest personalities in boxing thanks to being so transparent in interviews.

 

The American bubble will burst too though. Hearn has said it himself. There's a stream subscriber race going on at the moment with mad money flying around. It'll calm down in time. America will always be able to pinch the best British fighters, but hopefully they'll leave behind more good fighters in a few years than they are now, with the current US networks race to boost their stables.
