Spinks high guard would give him more protection than the wide open Hide had, all hide used for defense was movement, he moved fast but there wasn`t anything smart about his movement.
....but how do fans feel about it? Do fans feel that Cooney would do better vs Bowe than he did against Spinks?
I have to disagree Jackie boy ,i cant see Hide lasting 30 rounds with even an old larry Holmes if we turn it around .I reckon Spinks was made of sterner stuff than Herbs . Just my op old chap .
Mismatch. All Bowe. The other huge factor with the bout is how a fair fighter like Mike spinks deals with all the fouls and garbage Bowe did. does he punch Michael like he did donald pre-fight? How about all the punches after the bell? The rabbit punches. hitting on the break. All those things do not help Spinks 1 iota. And another thing Bowe was good at was to land a low blow and follow up with a combo. I sure don't see Spinks handling those fouls well. I think he turns to the ref for help and Bowe keeps swinging. It turns into a real ugly brawl and that really dashes the Spinks chances==he needs to steal a decision and cutie pie his way to the close decision win. But not to fight a hard physical brawl with the guy.
Bowe should win this. Spinks doesnt have much of a punch and Bowe excelled at imposing his size on little guys. Spinks is awkward and cagey, yes, but I think Holmes struggled more with the stylistic aspects of Spinks' game than Bowe would.
The Hide fight was the first thing I thought of when I saw this matchup. No disrespect meant there towards Spinks, who was obviously a better fighter than Hide, but Bowe's sheer physical size and strength would be too much for him. I honestly think this one could finish within 8 rounds with Spinks laid out.
Just one right hand from Bowe and Spinks is out of it. The only reason he beat Cooney (besides the fact that Cooney was done after Holmes imo) is because Cooney couldn't land a solid shot. With Bowe it would just be a matter of time. I often wonder if Bowe actually had a heavier right hand than Tyson (the latter's hand speed having just as much to do with his knockouts as his actual strength)... I could be wrong on any or all of this.
