    Bowe could be a monstrous, lunging puncher. I thought his right hand trumped Cooney's hook.

    I also think Bowe was another guy who could have done SO much more. He had the potential to be a more fearsome dude than either Foreman or Tyson but I guess that wasn't what he wanted.

    Spinks got lucky with both a washed up, couldn't land flush Cooney and a Larry Holmes five years past his prime (the latter of whom still got disgracefully robbed in that second fight). Other than that, he sucked as a heavyweight imo (he was admittedly one of the greatest light heavies though).

    Bowe would've run over him like a Mack truck over a Volkswagon Bug.

    Yeah, I think the fight's definitely a lot more competitive than people are making out. Spinks lacked size, resilience and power, but made up for it with one of the most unreadable styles ever. Bowe was great against fighters who came right at him, but tended to look lost against movers. I think Spinks could easily outbox him from range and catch him with quick flurries that Bowe would be unprepared for; the key to the fight IMO lies in how much Bowe can impose himself over Spinks throughout the course of the fight. If he an manage to walk Spinks down then I think he gets him out of there in the latter stages of the fight. If he tries to figure Spinks out then he could find himself on the end of a close but unanimous decision loss.

    A reminder of how poor Bowe could be against tricky movers.

    Hide got hit on his porcelain skull and went down. He was notorious for dropping from innocuous looking shots like that.

    Because he never proved that he did. He was a heavy handed banger who was good in combination, but plenty of HWs had better one punch power than him.

    I think Bowe by close decision. This would not be easy at all if Michael stays away from the inside and fights a tactical fight. Bowe never throws straight rights but only over hand rights which would play into Spinks hands

    Bowe for sure. In the Holmes rematch Spinks had to fight extremely cautiously for four rounds or so until some sting was gone. Bowe would be dangerous for a lot longer, punches harder and he'd be sharper as well not to mention he is BIG. Bad matchup for Spinks.

    Bowe is too physically strong for Spinks. Michael had better use his bicycle. Even if he does, Bowe should catch up to him for a late rounds tko.

    If Holyfield can beat Bowe why can’t Spinks?

    After all, Larry Holmes was always a better fighter than Riddick Bowe.

    Bowes status is based on Holyfield another guy who never dominated the division. bowe beat him but he lost to him. So it is circular resume. It’s like Ingo Johansson with Patterson. Good enough to beat the best guy out there one time. Then lose to him.

    Holyfield beat a past it Tyson but either struggled or lost against every decent heavyweight he fought. With a huge size advantage Bowe beat him but also lost to him.
