Nothing even close to being made official, just a social media call-out between a pair of guys who dwelt in the spotlight (and some p4p lists) in boxing a decade and change ago. The issuer of the challenge never went anywhere but has fallen progressively further into decline (and with ever diminishing value for his conquerors) while the recipient has been retired for seven years now (and hasn't beaten a world rated opponent in ten) and has struggled with depression, legal troubles and substance abuse...but has been rumored to be mooting a comeback for a little while now.

Steve Cunningham was a 2-time IBF cruiserweight titlist with three combined defenses and has of late been a floundering heavyweight contender (inactive now for 21 months since his last defeat, to Andrew Tabiti) - undersized but getting by on skill, experience, toughness and guile. Kelly Pavlik was a WBO & WBO unified as well as Ring Magazine and lineal middleweight champion, with three defenses...and had begun an unexceptional run at light heavyweight before going off the rails.

USS is 6'3" with 82" of reach. The Ghost is 6′2½″ with 75".

I'd really prefer to see them each in a rust-shaking tuuneup first. Picking this one blind is the definition of a crapshoot. Logic would say favor Steve but he is older (chronologically and more wear & tear) and if Pavlik were to put in a great camp and surprise everybody with some vintage form...

Depends how long he really has been hitting the gym plotting a return, if that's even true.

Pavlik has ravaged his body with alcohol. He was drinking everyday for years. He will get battered.

I read somewhere that Amir Khan drinks alcohol daily. I don't know if that is true or not and there is absolutely no evidence of it, and I am not judging him at all.

The reason why I bring it up is, if it is true it is really bad in boxing terms. That would age your career very fast, slow you down, lower your gas tank and so much more. Khan is a fighter that relies on his speed so if it were true then it would explain why he has dramatically gone over the hill and down so much.

I think the bad defence and the brutal KO's account for some of it, but I'm not sure how much.

Floyd and his team have mentioned a few times that he has always been tee-total and the would really explain one reason why he managed to stay at the top for so many years. Something that no other fighter has ever been able to do.

They should both take tuneups on the same card.
But I am down for it. Might make for a good fight.

Pavlik out of the ring puts more wear and tear on himself than Pavlik in the ring. Cunningham would batter him to a pulp.

Cunningham is way closer to fighting capably than Pavlik at this stage, really bad idea
