Evander Holyfield received a false prophecy that he would KO Lennox Lewis in the third round. According to the Bible, Holyfield should've led a mob to the house of the false prophet to stone him.

Deuteronomy 18:20-22 King James Version (KJV)
20 But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.

21 And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the Lord hath not spoken?

22 When a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.

Obviously the round 3 prophecy did not come to pass nor anywhere close to it.

I dont even think he believed it. A 37 year old shopworn fighter whose punching power was a 6-7/10 at best on his best night koing a man who had the size and skill of Lennox in just 3 rounds is a laughably unrealistic notion.

Likely just trying to generate hype and motivate himself. Trying to pull an Ali.

Evander was most likely talking out of his ass to hype up the fight and himself

Ali told Frazier "you know you're in the ring with God, right?" and Frazier still kicked his ass. Some people forget that God challenges everyone and tests their resolve, methinks

Maybe Ali was praying to the wrong god. If i was about to fight a prime Frazier id be praying to Aries the ancient greek god of war. And even then its questionable

Back when I was in college, one of my roommates became convinced that he would lose his virginity during the first weekend in February during our sophomore year (it was the same weekend Vic Darchinyan beat Jorge Arce half to death). I don't mean that he got a weird inkling a few days before. I mean that weeks in advance he basically began to brainwash himself into getting laid during the span of that weekend until it basically became a point of constant conversation. It was both annoying and wildly entertaining.

I think my roommate and Holyfield would find a lot of philosophical/meta-physical common ground if they had a chance to talk.

I'm guessing that didn't happen either?

    Correct :)

It ended up happening for him a few months after that. Once it did, he basically never had trouble with women going forward. I think he'd always put way too much pressure on himself and blowing the whole thing into a crisis. At least, that's how I explain to myself why he had such a nightmare dealing with girls despite being popular and better looking than average.

Giving yourself a deadline like: 'I will lose my virginity in these 48 hours' is way too much and is going to paralyze most people into inaction. Maybe not inaction, but you won't be relaxed and spontaneous.

In the same way, Holyfield bascially locking himself into kayoing an ATG opponent within a specific 3 minute period has the same effect. I'm convinced he believed the prophecy. That kind of thinking pulls you out of the moment, especially once the moment has slipped away. Antonio Tarver made a similar prediction (5th round I think) against B-Hop.

Since Holyfield didnt stone the false prophet like the bible commanded, god sent James Toney to smite Holyfield

Maybe Evander was hoping that Lewis would be just as obliging, Fergy?
