Oba Carr could have picked up a strap at 147 at any point in the last 10-15 years. His three title shots were against Trinidad, Quartey and De La Hoya; in a softer era he'd have a good chance against the typical alphabet titlist, and translated that into bigger money fights down the line. The introduction of the 108 and 105 divisions diluted the talent pool at flyweight, and made it more difficult to make meaningful fights due to having multiple titlists over 3 divisions from 112 downwards. Stand out flyweights like Arbachakov and Mark Johnson would have had the opportunity for more career defining fights prior to this. Even if they didn't win them all, it would have answered a lot of questions about just how good they were in their respective primes.
Jackson was never a great MW nor do I think he ever would be. He may pick up a strap, but he was not skilled enough to dominate any era. At 154 is another story, I think he is best there and that is where he did and would find the most success. In today’s MW division he is probably 3-5 at best IMO
I don’t know about Carr. He had good promotion, but still only managed a career best win over Darell Coley. Guys like James Page and Six Heads Lewis managed to hold belts while he was around. There were also weak titlists at 154.
Dick Tiger needed advanced weight drain control or the 168lb division, one or the other. He had neither in his era. Still managed a second title at 175 though, what a fighter.
Ezzard Charles at 175. Imagine what sort of light heavyweight career he could have had at pretty much any other forward stage.
Morrison would never have been a lineal champion except when Carnera was champ, Tommy was exposed a few times and never avenged his losses.
Him vs Baer would have killed everybody in 4 block radius. Nuclear fission would have been achieved 10 years earlier. World War 2 would have ended humanity if such a fight was allowed to happen. The horror, the horror.
Maybe at 154. His punch didn't carry that well. GGG has a great chin and good defense, Canelo has a good chin and great defense. Both hit hard enough to stop Jackson especially if they go after him. Love The Hawk but doubt his viability at 160.
Lol it would have been explosive for sure ! BOMBS AWAY . And not sure how poor Primo would fare against the ACORN .
Something to do with Ali i think .One of his pet knicknames .Sure it was Shavers bald head lookin like an acorn ..??
Good to see this post, several people screamed when I told them Fliescher, several other well known boxing s rated him in their top 15.One guy claimed JImmy ELLIS would beat the heck hahaha out of him
Have I missed it or has Sam Langford actually not as of yet been mentioned ? He is he clear first choice.
